Good morning all. Just curious, but is it possible to tune a Benjamin Trail NP AW 495fps up to full PAL rated power without too much of a hassle. Is it simply just a matter of getting a stronger gas ram, or are there other extensive modifications required to do so. Reason I'm asking is because I'm in the process of getting a PAL right now and I'm hesitant to get any more air rifles (spend more $) if they will only be capable of shooting 495fps. If the gun can be tuned once I'm licenced, then thats a different story... Thanks for your help.

I'd wait. The <500 and >500 cost the same amount new. If you bought an <500 it would then cost more $ to make it >500 once you got your PAL.

X2. If you don't have your card just wait. The prices are almost the same. Eric at scopes and ammo has the tune kit if your just itching to get your hands on it, your going to pay an extra 100 + tax + shipping once your card makes post (takes MONTHS man...).

My Trail AW is my favourite break barrel. 70 feet, one ragged hole. Love it. And, it's pretty darn quiet. PAL version in .22 only gets about 780 fps with good pellets. Crosman's claims are with alloy pellets.

Chewy..PAL version in .22 only gets about 780 fps with good pellets.
Think 780 fps is pushing it with a 14.2 , .22 cal..more like high 690 fps; that was on the Chrony with Daisy 0.22 cal hollow points.
But you got 780 fps on your Chrony?

Chewy...Just got off my butt and tried a few other pellets..RWS Meisterkugeln .22 cal hollow point weighed in at 14.8 gr...
speed was..690 fps and wadd cutter at 14.0 gr...speed 701 fps.
Will try some JSB jumbo, wadd cutters...have not weighed them yet.

Thanks for the advice guys. I guess I'll just wait it out and go for the PAL rated version once I get the certificate.

Sorry, you are correct! I should of typed 720. Just fired a few over the chrony and I was getting 717 so I guess I rounded up.

Just goes to show that they are not all the same, and slight variations can and do make a difference. I pulled mine apart and did lube tune with a new piston seal and molly. The one on it had some rubber 'burring'. I dropped a couple of drops of chamber oil down the hole as well, so that will bump it for a few as it sprays tiny bits out the first few shots and I'm sure that 'lubes' the pellets.

I would wager once settled my results would match yours pretty closely. Thanks for checking it out!
