surface rust on barrels and pump tube(s). any way to prevent it?

Oil
Any oil will do, just keep it on the outside.
Motor oil
sewing machine oil
3in1 oil
Whatever oil you have

Frog lube along with sures shot were in the top, on a test of twenty or thirty gun oil brands a guy online did a big test on. Here is a link describing it: http://www.guncleaningtips.com
