The main moan suggested that such work to my Webley Pistols could damage them.
This is a reasonable argument for the inexperienced (you need to know how much and how little)

Stephan buddy - you want to give your bad advice via PM so that no one can refute your nonsense? Perhaps you can respond to this thread:

Please explain how you are essentially achieving the impossible - you know, so we "inexperienced" folk can understand your "amazing abilities" and "vast knowledge".

I have Dumbass....your theorizing is wrong as usual.

Sometimes old dudes prefer to theorize rather than getting out and doing.
Try and i will prove you wrong.

Incidently, similar reworking of one of my Early Junior Models gave me about 30fps (and this in smaller internals!)
I simply skimmed back the leather washer in this model from about 6mm thick to about 4mm.
I deepned the Counter bore for the centre fixing screw by the difference, so that it wouldnt smack down into the bottom of the cylinder.
An easy 30fps dumbass!

Try Emailing John Bowkett.
He is the guy who developed all the Falcon pre charge stuff.
Originally called "Bowkett".
Worked on the BSA pre charge weapons and is responsible for countless tunes and redesigns for about 25 years in England.

He offered Meteors with 1/16 inch skimmed piton heads for 1ftlb increases.
Back about 1989.
.....and origianlly giving me the idea!

Bowkett experimented (Airgun World 1984 sept) with piston stroke and proved that swept volume hit its max in the last 3mm of stroke.
Gerald Cardews experiments were legendary, and he ahd gas detectors rigged along the cylinder of pistons.
He observed highest pressures during the very final 6mm before touch down, where pressures temparily hit 190lbs per square inch force in his HW35 cylinder rig.
Most of which was created in the last 1inch of stroke!

So critical is this end of the power plant that real wonders can be had if you know what you are doing.
One great mod (Venom Arms....i know Ivan incidently) is to produce direction channels into the end of the piton head.

Venom produced washers with these tiny trenches which guide the air outwards toward the transfer port.
Surprising efficiency increases were so great that it allowed them to tweak pback the mainspring strength (to keep gun legal) and increase smoothness/decrease recoil.
They also sold trimmed PTFE washers for a while (for about 2 dozen models i recall!!!)

Sometimes i guess old timers get too old, and attempt to stifle the experimentation of the younger.
Its the only way to learn/progress fella.....
or we wouldnt have any fricken guns in the first place you dumbass idiot!!

Just checked this and found 1.5mm of clearance before cocking stirrup would hit that end piston boss
I think you have measured your system wrong idiot.

Remember ...its 2mm removed from head only.
If there wasnt atleast 3 to 4mm of clearance to begin with, you would never be able to decock the pistol.

All check your Webleys (who has them) to see that we are dealing with an idiot.
Look down to the front of the gun, through the slot, until you see the end piston boss.
Now check the clearance between it and the cocking stirrup.
You should see about 5mm (i didnt even bother to measure it)
Now Check your MK1 and find atleast 4mm.
Junior looks like about 3mm and Tempest has a whopping 5.5mm of clearance.

What a Jerk!

Well, that was certainly impressive.
I had never thought of hurling baseless insults at people as a viable process for increasing the power of an airgun powerplant. I shall indeed try cussing out my buddy next time we are shooting, and I shall make sure to note chronograph readings, so that I may post them here, to compare results with your own.

Now all have a look at that the front of Supermatics piston there.
There is no hollowed out area beneath this, the mainspring does no go that deep into the piston.
In otherwords, this is a sold lump of steel.
Removing this back to even 1mm thickness infront of the ring (i am not suggesting you go quite that far) will still leave this plenty strong enough.
Its solid right through, and this skim only really effects down to the slot depth itself.

Prior to the mod (in std form) this is probably the most solid and hardened lump of metal work ever fitted into an airgun, and can stand the mod despite what "old windbag" is telling you.
My mod is about 10 years now!

Here are results as follows
All using Webley Mosquito (old stock which i use for testing)
Pistols being .177 (personal preferance.)
S.K.A.N Chrony by Cardew. (5 shot mean average)

Webley Senior original spec piston skimmed approx 2mm
Post war
439fps 494 fps

Webley Premier Polyurethane washer PTFE skimmed 1.2mm
429fps 477fps

Webley Junior Leather washer Leather cup skimmed back
362 fps 395fps

All weapons had basic tuning (lube) before these mods.

The MK1 is returning 455fps after basic tuning and nice supple washer.
No mod was involved due to its mint condition.

Super,
You really are the most obnoxious little creep on this board.
Ive been checking across some of your other postings....and always the same kind of patronising tone.
You started with the abuse by claiming my mod was no good without even bothering to try it, and now claim i am chucking the insul!?.
Sure im chucking the insult back ...fricken jerk!

Just your own opinion....
Opinion is always cheap, when people dont take the trouble to explore it, and experiment.
My results are not theory or loose opinion but the result of considerable effort and testing.

You really are a fricken asshole!

Dear Stephen:

I can find no members here by the insulting names you've used, no matter if I check tomorrow I may find no members answering to "Stephen" either...time will tell

Oh and by the way you can use paragraphs to separate your thoughts instead of double or triple posting, its often called "post-padding" and is generally considered in bad taste but again this is something you will learn with experience.

Have a nice day...because tomorrow may not be

It would seem the one that must resort to foul language has the weak position.

So curb your mouth Stephen.
