Anyone in Mississauga or GTA who cuts and crowns barrels? Looking to lop off 5 inches and don't have the tools (or patience) to do so.

Is the barrel choked at the muzzle?
If so, you will want to cut the barrel from the breech end.

good question. somehow I doubt the qb78 has a choked barrel, but could be a bad assumption on my part that cheaper airguns wouldn't deploy such techniques.

Push a pellet through the bore from breech to muzzle, and concentrate on any spots that the pellet seems to present more resistance. It should occur near the muzzle, but can sometimes be felt at various points along the barrel. Some folks will cut the barrel at a point just beyond the point where one of these tight spots occurs, so that the tight spot will act as a choke on the shortened barrel - providing that this spot is somewhere in the general area where they intended on shortening the barrel to anyway.

I find that the Crosman pellets usually work best for checking the bore - they are a much harder alloy, and thus, tend to offer more resistance when a tight spot is encountered.

the .22 barrel on my QB is not choked, but has lots of variance in resistance along the length of the bore, even when clean.

Just something to keep in mind!
