Wasn't sure where to post this, thought Target, General, but this looked more what i was doing.

Well for starters the Phantom is a different animal.
Ive only shot the .177 Stoeger, so this was a kick in the pants compared.
The first thing i didnt like was the cheesy rear sites.
Now i only got my Stoeger to compare anything too,so. The Stoegers rear site has nice clean clicks for
elevation & windage.
The Phantoms windage has NO clicks ?..just turns & sweeps across. The elevation does click, but not to well. IMO the rear sites were an after thought. The fibre optics were small & kind of hard to see.
The Stoegers are much larger & clear, so again with this only to compare to, the Phantoms were not that good. Im a scope guy so i really don't care, lol. But they aren't very good. I believe this Rifle was made with the thought's people will just put a scope on anyways, so lets not fuss with the static sites.
And the reviews i read were all true about Crosman over oiling this gun.
It was seaping down the left side of the trigger after 20 shots, lol. I just wiped it off, no biggie.
I would rather have a rifle with a bit to much oil than not enough & rusty with sticky trigger etc.
The Trigger was very smooth compared to the Stoeger, the length of pull before it fired seemed long.
Not used to it, would like to shorten it.
The cocking effort is a lot more than the Stoeger's, not a shock. The Stoegers is 19 lbs, the Phantoms is 24 lbs i think ?
The Ammo i picked to break it in was RWS Hobby 11.9 grain. They hit hard :D
These are the results of the first shots out of the barrel. Where i show the third shot there are 2 holes close.
I left it at 3 cause i made no adjustment & wanted to see where it would go. My over all thoughts are good i like this Air Rifle. It grouped really fast !.. the Stoeger took 100 shots before it did this, the Phantom hit center pretty quik. In all i fired 50 rounds tonight, the last target is the last rounds. Cheers 8)

Looks like you are getting the 'feel' for the gun. .22 will give a bigger kick if you were only used to .177. Trust those of us that steered you to the Phantom you are going to really enjoy it !!! :) :)

If you feel like spoiling yourself a GTX II trigger is really a nice mod.

You can get one from Eric
http://scopesandammo.com/storefront/pro ... cts_id=242

It's probably the single nicest thing I've done to the Phantom

Awesome ! thats what i want to hear SMP :) Mod parts

I find the trigger really smooth, compared to the Stoeger. The Stoegers was stiff & still is a bit.
The Phantoms has a long pull before it lets go ?... im guessing the adjustment screw can shorten this.
But i will wait awhile until i get more rounds through, i may get used to it & like it.
But any links & info for all MODS for the Phantom is very much wanted guys 8)

As i have never taken the air rifles apart, im sure a trigger up grade would be pretty strait forward.

And a huge thank you to REPOOC aka Paul for those videos of the procedure to break down the Phantom & re-assemble it, this will be a Massive help.
Cheers :supz:

Carefull playing w the trigger, I remember (sold mine) if you go too light, the sear does not always engage or engage fully. I got into the habit of holding the bbl while loading, I wouldn't rely on the "anti-beartrap system" I was using a diff piston so the cocking stroke was a little longer.

There are two pdf files available from the GTX website. one details installation and the other adjustment. They are a page each. After reading both I found the trigger was a snap to install, pull one pin, swap trigger, replace pin. The adjustment pdf details the adjustment and visually shows what you will see if you are in danger of a hair fine sear. I had mine adjusted just suhweet in three shots.

I can't say enough about that trigger.

Edit
Stoeger you should have the short piston as well. They stopped the long piston conversion over a year ago

Ya, that was something else i was going to say about the Phantom.
No auto safty ? & what they have isn't very good. Its better than nothing, just got to be a bit more carefull. Ya holding the barrel on this is a good idea 8) Cheers & thanks for that info for setting the trigger to light.

Awesome thanks SMP 8)
So getting the trigger in place sounds like a snap really, its just the set up might take a bit, but no biggie. See i dont know what a " great trigger " feels like so the one that it has feels really smooth, lol.
So this upgrade is going to do nothing but spoil me ! .. and make me buy MORE cool things for it

 you guys are going screw me over with all this cool mod stuff, more bloody money !!

Neither
When the canadian version (non pal) came out it had a piston which was 2 inches longer than the pal version. A longer piston means less swept volume, lower compression ratio and thus lower fps. This was combined with a spring which is about a fat inch shorter than the PAL version.

They did away with the long piston (i suppose to streamline parts) and drilled a hole in the center of the PAL short piston and continued to use the weaker spring. That happened over a year ago ( I don't know the exact date, certainly Eric would)

So the odds are very good you have the PAL version short piston with a hole in it.

The older ones used a 2" longer piston to detune them to nonpal levels, the new ones (from what i've heard) may have a hole drilled in the piston to detune. Cheaper to manufacture.

Hahaha

No comment on that Stoeger or we'll get our you know whats whacked.

I will say it's a very simple process to register your phantom once you get your PAL because there is a PAL version. Once you've done that the mods are easy and cheap
