KNOCK ON WOOD!

To introduce another tangent, I've been going thorugh "scopes and ammo", as I do, and I see the "crosman" barrels in .177.....anyone know if they're compatible?

Eric appears to be temporarily out of the .177 shrouded barrels and yes they will fit your Trail NP.

We all forgot one very important feature of this nice rifle... IT'S QUIET
I was shooting it the other day and the birds were still going to the feeder and hanging around on tree branches.
Have someone else shoot it, it's awesome.

I bought the same rifle from Scopesandammo with the Benji's HP pellets in .22 and they were really good! As DocGadget said it is very quiet i had a chipmunk climb my target at the cottage and smell the pellets and paper. He/she didnt seem to notice me. So thats why theres smoke coming out from the berrel, dieseling, i though it was kinda cool

Hammer :drinkers: for awesome review!

REPOOC :drinkers: for awesome info.

Thanks

Where did you find that short bit of Weaver rail for the side of the stock?

As for pellet pricing, I only "clear-out" stuff that doesn't really sell for long periods of time, and the Benjamin and Crosman HP's usually don't sit too long so there's no issue there.

However, Crosman jumped its pricing on alot of things at the end of July- pellets included (about 10% higher)- but I stocked up on a pile of stuff before then so prices haven't changed. By September/October when stores release their fall catalogs and such, and everyone needs to re-stock, pricing on some things is likely to go up somewhat (I am gathering that the price on alot of base materials- i.e. steel and lead, has been climbing steadily the last few months, and for things made in China, the labour rate there is getting higher and higher- so much so that (and yes, you heard it here first)- Crosman is bringing in parts from China more and more- not complete guns, just parts, and doing the assembly in the US (the Phantom will be, as of September, assembled in the US, not China as an example).

As for the issues with the NP Trail- the dieselling should have stopped for the most part by now- have you put some Silicone lube in the transfer port (this should dilute any remaining factory oil)? And the jammed barrel-break, it's possible something is gumming up the detent/spring (the plunger at the bottom/base of the barrel block)- as a comparison, a couple years back I had too much movement (up-down) on an older Quest (as in one of the first units sold in Canada back in 2003 or so), so I shimmed to heck out of the detent and have to basically 'karate chop' the barrel open- the barrel is super-solid and there is absolutely no up-down movement now, but I don't shoot it much (no time) and have never gotten back to sorting it out.

The rail sections were cannibalized from an old plastic M4 bb-shooter. Gun's useless, so now it gets hacked up for stuff like that....That's also where I got the flashlight holder that mounts on the rail.....Arts & crafts, yo! 8)

The dieseling had stopped, (more or less), until I cleaned it...but now after the weekend's good workout, it's back to just a jaunty wisp of barely noticeable smoke. I'll bet I had too much oil on the borebrush.....

And as for having to use the kung-fu-chop to break it open, gone now as well....
I'll bet you're right about something hung up in the detent.
I can get it to move by pressing down pretty hard on it with my thumb, and nothing feels like it's hanging up, so I'll assume it was some anomaly....

Thanks for the info and input, Eric!

So I handed the "Beast", (as she's been Christened), over to my buddy to throw a few downrange....

He noticed straight away, that breaking the barrel was more difficult.....now I know I'm not crazy.....

But still, with the butt extension, and the "Kung-Fu-Barrel"....as I'm calling it, the airgun fired by a non-shooter of any type, (this guy's had maybe 200 pellets shot, and ONCE with a shotgun, in total)....
4 out of 5 landed in the one inch square...(one flyer)...there's always a flyer.

When I cracked her next, I noticed little, (I'll call them filings), around the part that grips the "detent" for barrel lock up. (y'all know what I'm talking about).
The wang under the breech, with the notch. (I don't have the drawings here at home)

They're about the size of the really, really small shavings you find when you clean out the bottom of a CNC...(yeah....I've had some crappy jobs)....

As they work themselves out, the barrel breaks more easily, I think I've found what my problem was. :D
As they haven't affected accuracy whatsoever, the next task is not being so goddamn bad at shooting airguns....

and, P.S....I still Love this gun.

HS

To necro....I kept hearing this when I was looking for an airgun....but mine is still exponentially louder than my Quest.

I did drop some more (crosman love sauce) on every available working surface
....and, from hand to barrel,
And right to lock up, action is smooth as a.
...as a....well, it's real smooth and noiseless.

Only on firing is it loud.
(Not loud like I need earpro, but loud like, "wow, after 6 shots, that was loud.")

Did maybe I over-oil?

Confused, but still in Love,

HS

Just in case it was missed- use regular oil (i.e. like 3-in-1 or pellgunoil) on the metal parts on the exterior of the rifle, silicone chamber oil down the transfer port for the piston seal. Reversing them causes more grief than anything (silicone oil is a terrible lubricant between steel joints, and regular oil in the chamber will cause detonation and kill something sooner rather than later).

Crap...I've been using the silicon stuff for all oiling of the gun....

I'll make sure just to keep the silicon on the inside of the gun from now on.

Thanks again, Eric.

So, the boss is away..the other chemist is on vacation..
Time to break out the AIRGUN!

Dropped about 50 or 60 betwen work stuff...still 4 of 5 in a one-inch square @ 10m.

Applied the silicon oil (crosman) that I got from AirGunEric down in the guts, she's smokin' less and less.

Then, my good times got broken up by the HVAC guy coming by....(He was up on the roof, then had to come inside to check everything out).

He pops up into the mezzanine, and sees a locked gun case, and a target......
"What'cha doin here?"

OH CRAP....busted.....

So I explain....

We spent about a half an hour shootin that BJ-AW....it was as good in his hands as it is in mine.He said, (and he's a hunter, very familiar with rifles...etc),
"Zat'sgreet...gunahaftagitwunnadeez..bye''"

Which, loosely translated for the bruthas like me who have a hard time understading the East-Coast fellers...

"This seems to be a good AirGun...I have enjoyed this experience, and wish to continue it in the future."

She seems to hit, no matter who's on 'er.....

I Love this AirGun.
:)

Much thanks to AirGunEric.
He don't sell crap,
And he sells the good stuff at reasonable prices.

HS

I really enjoy my BJ AW, once I upgraded the trigger! I found it to be fairly quite, compared to the BJ CLASSIC but it always did some strange groupings once in awhile. the stock is almost as comfortable as my sleep number mattress!

I've read that the NP air rifles are quieter that their "springer" cousins but can the same be said of the PAL rated NP air rifles?

I've only shot one other non-PAL rated "springer" air rifle and I don't miss the spring vibration after the shot.

One other thing I'll mention about NP air rifles, if you're shooting in your backyard like me the NP won't alarm the neighbors. Last week I was firing off my Crosman 357 CO2 pistol and the "bark" from the pistol had me alarmed and watching for my neigbors or the town police to appear
