You will find that the green doesn't work well (if at all) in cold weather.
Green lasers are DPSS (Diode Pumped Solid State) so they basically have an infrared laser diode pumping a frequency doubling (and wavelength halving) crystal to turn 1064nm (infrared) light into 532nm (green).
When the parts get cold, they shrink (simple physics) and the parts aren't in perfect alignment anymore.
***CAUTION*** The laser is still pumping out invisible 1064nm light that could easily injure your eyes.
Just because you can't see it doesn't make it any less harmful.
A red laser, while harder to see in the daylight, is JUST a diode through a lens and on out to your target. The only ill effect cold will have is it could make your batteries die faster.

That's pretty interesting information I never knew about green lasers. Now I'm debating whether to go green or red...I really wanted the green but I'm thinking I may get more use in the winter. Hmm I think I'll just go green anyways.

So I got some new parts in today:
-Sergey board v3 #62
-new digital display for the board (blue)
-Nichibo QJT 360S-14280 mag motor (to match max RPM from board)

Later tonight I'll be doing some more tinkering and installing the new display. Also need to take the old motor to an RC hobby store to get the gear pulled off the old pinion shaft and put on the new motor

So I encountered I few issues with the upgraded motor. Hopefully this will help any enthusiasts for reference.

PROBLEM:
1. Gear from stock motor is glued on pinion
2. Pinion of upgraded motor is slightly larger in diameter
3. Pinion of upgraded motor is not notched. Stock motor and gear are notched.
4. Mounting screwholes on upgraded motor are smaller than stock screws.

SOLUTION:
1. Dip gear of stock motor in WD40 and let for a few hours. (this will not damage the plastic but will break down the glue). Remove gear carefull with fine needle-nose pliers.
2. Drill gear to match the diameter of the upgraded motor pinion. To be extra safe, I used a pin vice. You can buy these dirt cheap off ebay and they're commonly used on jewellery. DO NOT drill right through - there is a notch!. It only takes 2 or so small turns and can easily be done by hand. I used a 3/32 bit.
3. Using a pair of pliers to hold the pinion in place, a dremel will be used to create a notch. the notch takes about 1/3 of the entire diameter. Shave down bit by bit and keep checking and adjusting to fit.
4. Home depot - find the right screws. Otherwise you might have more luck at a RC hobby store.

For #3, I took the motor and gear to a RC hobby store to let the guy do it for me since my dremel is a cordless wad of fail.

Anyways, I just wanted to inform anybody considering upgrading their mag motor to accomodate the sergey board @ max RPM. I was unpleasantly surprised to see it wasn't just an easy swap procedure.

I had posted a couple of pics upgrading mine, Cam has a tutorial as well...
I didn't bother with the notch, just made the gear fit tight on the nich motor.
I also decided to drill out the mounting plate instead of leaving the motor "poised" on the larger motor bushing ring.
I made a couple of short dummy batteries and am running with 4 lipos (16.8v max).
The mag motor is keeping up fine at 2 grand but a magnet in the mag head (drilled and pressed in) is a HUGE help with a consistent feed.
All I need now is to make a mag latch plate and to throw a laser on it.
I have a 160mW red laser that should show up nicely in bright daylight and defocus for a good night time hunting flashlight. Still have to make rings to mount and adjust for accuracy though.
