A prairie cousin introduced us to squashing pennies on a railway track at a family reunion, by Kalamalka Lake in the early 1970's. We hid in the trees, and I remember being quite scared that the row of pennies might derail the train. My cousin wanted to put rocks on there as well, but I insisted not. I was imagining the trouble we'd be in if we wiped out the whole campground with a crashed train. Probably not though, eh? Those copper pennies sure squashed out flat! I doubt one would shatter like the above-pictured copper-plated zinc piece of junk.
I used gum to hold them still on the tracks, I was PISSED when I would put some of my pennies there only to see them fall off when the train was too close for me to go put them back. Good times.
you know... we used to put rocks on the tracks too.
we had to get rocks that wouldn't squirt away when the wheels hit them.
They crushed to a find grind - almost powder :+)
We also lit the brush on fire along side the tracks - just to see the fire department come out :]
MAN! - those were the days! heh!!
