They would now have to get longer to get heavier.... I wonder if JSB will be bringing them out in .22 and .25 cal.... Heck, they don't even have a .25 Heavy or Monster yet, and they SURE need those....I figure the Beast in .22 would be pushing 30 gr. and in .25 cal they could have a Heavy at about 31 gr., a Monster at 38 gr. and a Beast at 45 gr.... Multiply all those weights by two to get the FPE level possible at 950 fps in high-powered PCPs.... Sign me up !!!

16 gr .177 would have to be quite long. Would that make for a more accurate pellet ? Seem,s to me with the tail shaped like it is and a heavy head they should be extremely accurate at long ranges. Bob did you try the measurement,s in the aerodynamic calculator ?

Hmmmm, my Diana 48 might like those. Thanks for the heads up Bob

Hell, why not shape it like a spire with a flat base like the .17 powder burner equivalent! the "bullets" would be stable super sonic since the weight bias is in the base!

I've had very limited success with oversize pellets. Maybe these are the Grail?

These are only the heaviest by 0.1gr, Eun Jin has had 16.1gr .177cals for quite some time, I have never found them to shoot well at any sort of distance...

Hopefully the JSB pellets are better

I'm aware of the EunJins. but I have yet to find a gun that likes either the domes or points in any caliber as far as stellar accuracy is concerned.... My hope is that the JSBs will be better....

I've been shooting these a lot lately. Yesterday evening I cronied these through a Hatsan 155, w/ Ukranian made gas-ram as power plant. They averaged 860.12 fps for 5-shots with extreme spread of 7.4 fps. If the advertised weight is correct, then these are averaging 26.62 fpe through the Hat 155. If somebody knows the actual average weight of these projectiles and is willing to share that information, that would be great. I no longer have a scale that will measure these kind of weights. If I can find out what these actually weigh, then I'll be able to chronograph at longer range, 100 yds, so that I can calculate a ballistic coefficient for this particular gun. The Beasts are quite accurate through the Hat 155. I have seen some very small groups, even sub 1/4" at 43 yds, my zero range, but this is probably just a fluke as normally these shoot aroung 1" with me behind the gun.

Interesting, for sure. Owen's 1/4" at plus 40 yds shows some good potential.

I have yet to see any accuracy success with a cylindrical pellet in either .177, or .22. These may be worth a try...

Would be nice to see how, and if, they pile up (terminal ballistics)...

Regards,

Doc Sharptail

Mine averaged 16.3066 on my cheapo scale, which seems pretty accurate but I suppose a .1gr error is possible. They are .310" long. The 13.43gr are .265". 10.34 are .250". 8.44 are .241". So that's a pretty big jump. The nose is more rounded like the 8gr which I like. The seam on the 8 & 10 is basically invisible, can be seen on the 13, and is obvious on the 16. No biggie I suppose since the head is smooth.
So far I've only shot them over the crony in a Beeman P17 and HW95, and they're too heavy for either one. The P17 would gain a little power as weight went up with 8.4, 10.3 and 13.4gr JSB's each gaining ~4.5% power over the previous, but the 16.3 dropped 5.5% compared to the 13.4 and less consistent. I'm guessing friction, but will test that later.
The HW95 didn't like them at all with velocity scattered from 300 to 530 fps. The other pellet weights performed normally. The gun is rather low powered and the barrel is choked so it's not a good combo for that pellet. The pellet might be coasting by the time it hits the choke so I suppose that and excessive friction would explain the random velocity. I'll probably have to test that too. Sigh...
Aside from curiosity tests I really only expected them to work in one gun, my Diana 350, which I haven't tested yet. A magnum springer in 177 is basically out of balance so there isn't really any pellet that's ideal, but I was curious how much it would tame and quiet the gun, and if it was as/more accurate than the 13.4gr which is no doubt the best pellet for it. I'm hoping they won't drop below 750fps, and if it shoots well enough then maybe they're worth having, if not then at least I'll know. I'll try to remember to post the results, and any testing in other guns, but basically this is a pcp only pellet and I don't have any of those.
