This past Sunday there was a FT competition I attended in Burlington, planning on shooting my EV2 in WFTF PCP division.


Upon arriving I break out my scuba tank and rifle, connect my newly rebuilt fill line, start charging the gun...Psssssssttt ~air leak~ one of the fittings was not not as long as the previous and did not mate properly, so air was getting past. "Alright" I think to myself "no big deal, I know many other people have fill lines, no big deal"

After entering the club, greeting a few friends and chatting for a bit, I find a fill line. I bring my tank down and bring the rifle case over, the line was a bit too short so I had to hold rifle while Don ran the scuba tank valve. The usual noise AA owners are accustomed to begins, but seems louder than normal, but, the rifle was filling from empty as it had leaked out at some point in the last 2-3 weeks without me knowing. Right around 1000PSI I hear something and think "there is that damn sound again", yes the same sound I heard earlier; Psssssssttt There is air leaking out of the hole for atmospheric pressure in the regulator, we tried a few different things to get it to stop but it continued to loose air rapidly.I think before the gun was even done draining out I said "Len, how busy are you?"

Luckily I had brought my S510 Limited Edition along to show and hopefully shoot a couple times for the first time. I was going to share a gun with canshooter, but we went to fill up his Logun and after filling there was a leak coming from fill valve. I decided to just take my Nikko 10-50x60 off the EV2 and throw it on the S510, I turned it down to 16X and shot in hunter PCP. Since this was a particularly well attended match we were broke into two groups of shooters and I was in the second group. This gave me time to put my scope on the rifle, I also realized I had to remove my sidewheel to access the mag, its been so long since I've had a gun with a magazine I didn't think about it until I already had the scope the gun

When it was our turn to shoot the course we had 5mins of sight in time each, Ted was nice enough to forfeit his sight in time to allow me 10mins to myself as I had never shot the gun before, the scope was also set for my EV2 which shoots around 11FPE. My S510 is .22cal and shooting around 16-18FPE. I took a few shots, decided on a 30(ish) yard zero, took shots at 10yd, 20yd, 30yd, 40yd & 50yd to get an idea of where is was hitting. It took me about 2.5 rotations on elevation (somebody tell me this when I am cursing my EV next match ) to get where I needed to be, and then I shot two decent .75" group at 50yds.

The match went great and what better way to get to know a gun than shooting a FT match with it? The gun is absolutely amazing; smooth as silk when cocking the side lever and advancing the pellet, as Tom noted; the metal magazines are very impressive, a very high quality look and feel to them. The stock is beautiful any way you look at it, so I was especially careful when changing lanes and casing/uncasing the rifle. After a few lanes I really figured out where the gun was hitting and I ended up cleaning three lanes, each of our lanes had 4 targets as there was six lanes it was a 48 shot (96pt) match and I closed out the day taking first place in Hunter PCP with a final score of 87/96 IMO a true testament to Air Arms rifles, but hey; I am bias

Just a great day of shooting FT regardless of what position I finish in...

Nice score! I found it very difficult on Sunday but fun nonetheless. I think I score 47 lol.

Looking at your score of 87 means you failed to knock over 9 of the 48 targets.

So if you look at this from a WFTF or Open perspective, you shot a 39, which would have tied you for 2nd place.

That's an impressive result using a kit that's not setup. At that power level, you'll actually have less velocity than your EV2 also, so the trajectory will be even more pronounced.

Impressive shooting Joel - but even more impressive was your ability to quickly adapt to an unexpected situation!

Yes, yes, it's easy shooting a rifle that doesn't move when you pull the trigger - one day, when you're brave enough, you'll start shooting a real airgun - one that jumps when it's fired and doesn't shoot the same 2 days in a row!

Good stuff! That certainly is a beautiful rifle! Adapting on the spot like you did is a great gift to have. Congratulations!

I have much more experience shooting springers than PCP's, just shoot PCP for the most part in FT. Judging by the groupings I have been getting with my tuned TX you better bring your "A" game
