My neighbour (a welder) just purchased an IZH 46M, and is concerned about lubrication. I should tell you he likes to lubricate everything, all the time, as he does on his job.

I don't have an Izzy and frankly almost never lubricate my guns, powder or air, except for mechanisms, and I usually use silicone oil. Even on powder guns, I only clean the barrel once a year or after 40 shots, and never .22 rimfire barrels. Dave has read the instruction manual and wants to get oiling things right away, which I've told him is not especially a good idea.

Can some kind soul out there educate my on the lubrication of the 46M, and what product to buy, what to do and what NOT to do, so I can order it, give it to him, and get visions of oilcans and WD40 out of his head?

I could use the education myself. Thanks so much!!!

Crosman "PellGun Oil"..Or..Compressor Oil.
Put a drop down transfer port and do not "Cock" the piston, just work the arm, a couple of times to
move the oil around, then good to go.

IMO the oil is only necessary on the backside of the piston. Lube for the rubbing of the piston on cylinder.
So IMO it could be any light weight oil. Use it on all pivots in the cocking arm as well.
I would not use Pellgumoil in the valuing of that gun.

According to the IZH 46M "Warnings and Instructions Manual" (http://www.eaacorp.com/Manuals/IZH46.pdf)

"When lubricating the air compression chamber, use only a special lubricant with
a high flash point designed specifically for use inside an air compression chamber
1. To lubricate the air compression chamber and air
compression seal, follow the Cocking Instructions
and cock the air pistol. Put a few drops of special
light oil into the vent hole that leads into the
compression chamber. See Figure 21. Now cock
and un-cock the pistol in several different angles
so the oil spreads around the piston chamber.
See Figures 22, 23 and 24. Do not over oil (no
more than 3 or 4 drops on each lubrication). The air pistol chamber should
be oiled every 500 pellets."

I think the oil referred to here is something like silicone oil or RWS Chamber Oil. For lubricating the cocking arm etc. any lubricating gun oil ought to do.
