I was in the local Wal-Mart super center a few days ago and noticed they were clearing out Gamo Rocket pellets. They were .177 and had what looked like a small copper BB in the head. They also were pretty hollow on the other end. I did notice they were claiming extra penetration, I guess because of the steel BB in the point. I didn't get any because $4.00 didn't seem like all that great a deal but maybe I should have gotten a tin just to see.

Anyone here tried them?

HI I used them from time to time. They have a very bad accuracy past 20 yards but they do penetrate well.

I use them for mouse pest control at short distance with my crosman 357 and it works very well and it make a humane kill.
hope that can help.

Thanks. I am pretty much broke until next month but I guess I can afford to try a tin of them. Next time I am in town I will buy one.

Accuracy is not so hot in .177, I've found.
Different story in .22 though- they hold their own against the jsb heavy exact, with better terminal ballistics.
Jury's still out comparing them to the .22 Predator, although the Preds show slightly better expansion in very informal test media...
I think the .22 version would cut an effective wound channel in small game at reasonable a/g distances (well this side of 25 yds)

Regards,

Doc Sharptail

Thanks, that is generous but it would be cheaper to just buy some. The last time Moltogordo sent me something I had to write a check to UPS to get my package. Neither Gordo, the UPS man nor I knew what it was for tho I later learned on this forum that it was a fee charged by UPS for handling the shipment from Canada. I have noticed that neither the U.S. Post office or the Canadian one charge that fee.

Wow.
I see . Didnt know where you lived. Sorry.
Anyway they are fun to plink with but i dont think they made a big hit. ;)

Docsharptail seems to get it right with the tests. I have a few tins in .22 but didnt get to shoot them much. I will try them in my rifles.

Alex and Sharptail, if you decide to drive to Panama City for the Winter, you can stop by and we could do some plinking. I live in the middle of nowhere in the Florida Panhandle.

During the Winter months about half the tags you see in Panama City, Beach are from Ontario. The locals call them Snowbirds.
