The reason I ask is after searching on the Internet it seems there are two different ways used to reduce it to 495 fps..

a shorter gas ram/piston OR a hole drilled in the piston face

If you wanted to, I'll use the phrase "Tune It" to keep everyone happy, and you had the shorter gas ram/piston, you could buy the full power tune kit for $85 plus tax and shipping from Eric BUT if you just had a hole drilled in the piston face you could plug it, saving yourself over $100.

I have the opportunity to pick up a 495 fps version for a killer price. I don't really need one, wouldn't spend the $ on a full retail, full power or 495 fps one so spending another $100 above and beyond the "killer deal" is out of the question.

Basically it seems like I would have to roll the dice and see what I get....so I'm wondering if anyone out there has recently traveled this route in the last 6 months or so, what did they find on disassembly....shorter or drilled hole?

Thanks....Jim

I did tune mine recently. Was crazy about this one. I has moled the stock for a longer butt plate and It got stolen about 3 weeks ago in my car.

I t was accurate to 50 yard.

the stock was very cool to hold.

Thanks, it's my understanding that some have the full power piston but are detuned with a drilled hole so I'm just wondering if someone has recently bought and torn one apart...and if so....what did they find. It would be nice if the manufacturer switched to the cheaper detune method in their newer models.

What did you do to tune it? Did you have the shorter piston or was it drilled? And how old was it?

Thanks...Jim

I tuned mine with the stronger piston from Scopes and Ammo. There was no hole. Mine was only a few months old.
I sold it to a forum member and he sold it to another forum member. Maybe that was Alex ? ;-)

Hey Alex - what a drag it was stolen.

My nonpal piston. Had a hole in it. Same dimensions has the pal one.
I would just order the np strut from gravel or crosman and plug the piston hole if I was to re do the mod.
The on I had stolen was bought brand new direct from Eric.

I am new to this site, I own a Benjamin Legacy Jim Shockey from Canadian tire, and I want to increase the fps.

I am just wondering why a number of peeps on this site are looking to de-tune their guns down to 495fps?

Easier cocking for a break barrel, less noise/more shots for a PCP for example. In this case the original poster was referring to how Crossman had de-tuned the rifle.

This one might be a different gun but i just did a Shockey S
teel Eagle and it had a weaker nitro spring and a hole drilled in piston.Plugging the hole got me around 650 fps.
