Decent speed for a 286gr., Harold. Well done. I found BLC2 to deliver exceptional ballistics in my 9.3x62 with all bullet weights.

Good bullet choice. I also found the Speer 270gr. should be called a varmint bullet. They are accurate but too thinly jacketed for big game.

Avoid the Hornady 286gr like the plague ..........they explode like a grenade.I had a moose I shot a few years ago stop that bullet on a 180 yard shoulder blade before blowing to confetti. This buck was an instant kill but shot on the full run chasing a doe from a treestand offhand in a breeze through poplar cane.I hit him in the spine too far back but it killed him dead.I'll be talking to Hornady on monday.

WOW- I would have thought that bullet would have been a super one from the 9.3x62.

Guess I'll have my bro (sold my 9.3x57 to him) stay with the Norma Dual cores and the 293gr. TUG's I've loaded for him.

The only ammo I have loaded for my 9.3x62 right now, are some old-style Barnes 250's. I think they are the .049" jackets but could be .032's, but suspect if I use them, I'll slow them down to about 2,300fps.

I did make or rather altered a .222 FL Pacific die, to size .375" bullets down to .367" for my 9.3x57. Sold that rifle to my brother. A friend in Idaho who is doing the same thing with .375's, has shot 2 good sized muleys (1 buck, 1 doe) with the 225gr. Hornady SpirePoints sized down. Those have 1/16" thick jackets. That is .0625" thick. They are very tough and worked a treat - almost full length penetration on each and almost no bullet weight loss.

The same thing happens with Speer 235gr. Sp's sized down. He runs them at 2,450fps and 2,550fps. Sizing them down seems to make them tougher than before.

Lee will make a 3-die set for doing this and that is how Rod (Idaho rancher) sizes his down. In penetration tests on steer heads, 1/2" plywood boards and water jugs, the sized down bullets match the A-square and Partitions from the .375 H&H for penetration - amazing results.

European small sling size and this is it's first trip afield with me............... so now it's blooded.I need a sling.I just finished pulling the 286gr Hornady's and seating same weight Partitions. That should cure that.I spent an hour on the phone to a Hornady ballistics tech and they save bullets from every lot in a warehouse somewhere and are going to duplicate my load and see if they hold together.Said they would share the results.Hornady makes a 250gr GMX that might be a killer as well. I have assorted factory Norma 235gr HP,286gr and a couple boxes of the old RWS H-Mantle ammo weight 286gr -300gr as I don't read German. Was loading 58gr /RE#15/Lapau brass/286gr bullet and Fed mag primers........not chronied but should be a little over 2300 fps + Harold

Haven't seen a separated core like that on live game in quite some time.

The old 150 gr Dominion/CIL nylon tip in .303 was bad for that-total blow up on spine shots. It was marketed as a big game bullet too...
Last spike shot with it had an entry hole the size of a pie-plate, and no exit.

The fellow who butchered my brother's bear from last fall, said the Norma Dual core (yellow plastic tip) blew up as well- so- back to square one on available 9.3mm bullets.

I do know for a fact, that the Hornady .375", 225gr. Spire Points and Spear 235gr. Semi RN's both sized down to .366" do really well in the 9.3 when loaded to 2,550fps or less. By really well, penetration and expansion duplicating some premium lead core bullets.

Lee Manufacturing will make you a 3-die set to size .375" bullets down to .366". This will usually run a bit less than $100.00 US for the 3 custom dies. They fit a normal compound linkage press, like a Lyman Crusher, RCBS Rockchucker, or Hornady Compound rest. I own both Hornady and Lyman compound presses and have used both for this operation.

They shoot fine in my 9.3x62 as well, of course, even though .001" oversize at .367", which is meaningless.
