Some suggest leaving a pumper such as, Crosman 760, M4-177 , Umarex NXG, etc. , with one pump between shooting sessions. Most manuals do not mention this. My new NXG says do not leave pumped. Any thoughts on this?

I have had my NXG for 2 years or so.... store it with 0 pumps. So far, so good!
BTW, a fun shooter and accurate! Likes inexpensive Daisy wadcutters.

I've herd that before, but i have many pumpers
never left them stored pumped up, and never had a problem :wink:

I like to leave 2 or 3 pumps in mine- at least in the pumpers that are easily de-cocked. 13-XX no problems doing this for the last 15 years or so...
76O I've had less than a year- same treatment.
Some say this low pressure helps the o-rings stay oily. Seal replacement on my pumpers is such a low occurence, I'm sure not hurting anything...

This applies mostly to the Sheridan and Benjamin models. I have a 1976 Blue Streak and when you put 1 or 2 pumps in then it closes both valves to atmosphere thus keeping dust/debris out. Some of the newer pumpers have very soft valve seals and may be damaged or "imprinted" when storing with some air charge. I would probably go with manufacture recommendations to be safe though.

Always left 1-3 pumps in my airguns depending on the gun. Same thing with CO2.

No company is ever going to tell you to leave a gun charged because if someone is accidentaly shot it becomes their fault.
And if they say "store it with 2 or 3 pumps someone (the same guy who pumps 18 times when it says not to do it more than 6 times) will put 12 pumps in (because if 3 is good 12 must be better right) and leave it is car and when the sun will hit and the pressure will build up and he gets injured gues who do you think he's going to sue for his stupidity?

Would you empty your air tank on a PCP when you're done shooting?

Most of these are going to have a spring that actually holds the check valve and valve closed initially anyways...dirt is not getting in there.

Some folks mod the valves with light valve springs..such that they must be cocked before they can be pumped. With these, there is an argument for storing with a pump or two.

When in doubt...follow the manual.

The procedure is to pump uncocked (for those that can) or uncock after pumping (again, for those that allow this - hold bolt back and depress trigger while gently moving bolt back to closed)
