For years I've been fond of the quality breakbarrel air rifles from Norica of Spain, who've been making them since 1917. I ordered this rifle yesterday and it arrived early today! Talk about satisfaction. Soon after checking it over and firing several pellets into the brush to get a feel for the shooting cycle, I removed the stock, saw that the spring was dry and, using a toothpick, applied a few dabs of Moly to it. Cleaned the bore with GooGone followed by dry patches. Put 1 drop of oil on both sides of the pivot bolt. Sprayed the receiver and barrel with Ballistol, put a coat of paste wax on the stock for protection from sweaty outside shooting once it warms here, and applied pure silicone oil (RC car shock absorber oil) to the breech seal. The trigger right out of the box is snappy (little creep on the 2nd stage) and, I'd estimate, about a 2 - 3 pound pull. Very much like my Weirauchs when new, and so, it needs no adjustment. When running patches through the bore they weren't coming out of the muzzle. There must be some grooves, or air space in the moderator/brake that the patches were getting hung up on, but another toothpick helped remove about 5 of them. It's a fairly light weight gun with an attractive Beech stock stained black with lighter color highlights. The bluing is dark and smooth, and it has a ventilated rubber butt pad. It's a long gun measuring about 47".
I mounted a Hammers 3-9X AO scope and went down cellar and zeroed it close to the 1/4" dot aim point from 8m., resting only my left forearm. Shooting H&N Sport pellets I shot a 10 shot group which I think is pretty nice for a new gun, and since I'm an old guy, I'm not always all that steady. Since, I've tested 8 pellets of different brands, shape and weight, and so far the winner for accuracy are the very inexpensive, EXCITE Spikes, a pointed pellet of 8.64 gr. Isn't it a gas to find a cheapo pellet that groups well? The brake, trigger blade and guard are made from a composite, yet there is no flex of the trigger - same as my Norica Massimo, which I bought years ago when it was in production. Overall I'm very pleased with this rifle, and it's certainly worth the bargain price of $200 US with free shipping. Now to start breaking it in... having fun. Oh yeah, I've already voided the warrantee by sawing off the front sight, then filed, sanded and polished the moderator with very fine steel wool - looks sleek. RC
