I was watching Stranger Things last night on Netflix and noticed Crosman 2240's being taken out of an armoury cabinet. Anyone else catch that? Show is set in 1983, so the 2240's are definitely not period correct for the show.

I don't have Netflix anymore (internet too slow), but a few years ago I saw a show (think it was Primeval - New World) where they were using 2240's as tranquilizer guns.

I've seen airguns many times in movies. It seems to me the pattern is low budget movies, thus a low budget gun. Last one I saw was a break barrel but I forget the movie. So I figure a firearm prop is likely a real gun, and my guess modified so nobody can pull a Brandon Lee. Or a fake gun made by a prop company, either of which would be very expensive. So if on a shoe string budget why not just grab a $100 airgun?
I've been keeping my eyes peeled for the Crosman M4 and MTR77, but they look pretty real and a quick glance at a distance isn't enough so I can't say I've seen one for sure.
Then the tranq guns of course, both animal and spy movie types. I've seen several types of CO2 and misc ones I can't place, and many of which are small cal like 22 they just grabbed off the shelf. Makes me wonder if there are any real tranq guns in 22 or they're all much larger? I'm no tranq expert but I just assume the darts need to be much fatter, and much longer so most all could not accept it.
I also remember seeing a break action single shot firearm used, like an H&R / NEF, which would be great except for the power source. Powder would no doubt destroy a tranq dart, and the gun has no air so? I assume it's just a movie thing and you're supposed to ignore details like that but it makes me wonder if there is some way, like maybe there is one with a built in CO2 charge in the shell. For example; your (real) job is animal control at the zoo and they want tranq and kill options, so it would be nice to have one gun be able to do both rather than drag two guns around.
Bonus: Anyone see Santa Clause goes to Mars? They used Wham-O Air Blasters and I had one as a kid, which are actually kinda cool but yet another cheap prop that does the job.

Many of the James Bond movies contained airguns. What comes to mind BSA Scorpion, LP53, Cr 1100, Cr150.
As for your 1983 movie you most likely saw the CR SSP250. The 2240 and 50 are the modern version when Cr discontinued them in the early 90s. Because Joe Public wanted a replacement.
