I've had this thing for a while. Its got a few mods for accuracy. I recrowned the barrel. Added some O rings to hopefully reduce resonation, and an O ring to stop rattling on the piston cocking arm. I also "bedded" it with some well placed strips of adhesive bedding (electrical tape HAHA ). It has a CenterPoint 4x cheapo scope. Has around 1000 pellets through it.

Anyways I always had issues with accuracy and consistency with this thing. Until I added these O rings. The other part to the puzzle is I found these Grizzley brand made in Alberta pellets. 14gr for the wadcutters and 17gr for the pointed. But interestingly they both hit the exact same spot. And I virtually NEVER get a flyer. I had 2 out of 5 crosman hollow points flying. It was so frustrating!

Today I shot a 10 shot group. 9 in the same hole, 1 a 1/4" away. Wow. 10 shots! 9 in one hole!! I mean, its only at 6.6 yards, but its still amazing to me compared to how it shot before.

Well done..I'd say you did a good job with the tuneup....especially crowning the barrel.....let's also give partial credit to the lowly Grizzly pellets.....I picked up some grizzly round in .22 and .177 and also ...surprisingly.... find them very accurate.. the standard deviation with my nitro venom comes in at 2 fps....grizzlies and JSB were the only pellets to give me those low numbers.....usually 4 or 5 with other brands and the Daisy line of pellets .....s.d. of 6:( ....so I stocked up on the grizzlies at $4.97 for 500 .177s and 5.99 for .22s(250)Best deal out there.....accuracy for less than a penny a shot

Man they are cheap as beans too! Thanks, btw. I am happy. I shot 2 more through the same hole, then lucky 13 went high. I blame myself! Hehe.


Heres a few pics of the pellets. I will try to get a pic of the crown job. Embarrassigly enough, I didn't have any idea about bluing so I used a sharpie to blacken it. Hah.

BTW these things are super duper soft.

Not the first or the last time that technique will be used. Well done on the tune. Impressive accuracy considering what you started with.

I like the look of that rifle.

Most air rifles that I see in the PA flyers are the cheap Chinese made break barrels.
They are worth buying, aren't worth modifying.

I like its look, too. From what I can tell its modelled after a Crosman Phantom.

And well said, I totally agree. I could have got a Crosman Phantom for $20 more. I am sure it would have been better to start with out of the box.

A total crappy thing about this rifle, is the barrel... its weak and can bend easily. The way they joined it up with the breech block, its just garbage. You can see a parting line in the bore where they meet up if you look down the barrel. I tried to tig weld it into place, and the welds came out good, but its not any stronger than before welding.






It has been worth the time, I agree. I wanted to learn about springers, and I have learned a LOT. SOO much. Almost every thing I did to it to begin with made it weaker and less accurate. Google showed me a lot. The youtube videos, idk. Not so much. The hands on, what a wonder! This rifle is open to basically every mod you can look up for a springer. The only thing that wont help this thing is changing the piston length, its already as short as it can be. But basically every other mod you can find, works on this. Fantastic learner.



Well, Princess Auto had a sale going on, so I grabbed like, all the .22 I could find! I love these guys. Looking closer they are made in China. Boo.



Heres a pic of the crown job. I used a drill bit, spun very slowly varying pressure to start it off. Then put a wad under the bit, put some 320 grit sand paper on the barrel, and then spun it in reverse. Did a really good job. Gives me around 16deg. I then followed it up with a 60deg small taper on the rifling. Then of course the sharpie. Hah. Cleaned it up with a very small diamond round file. Oh, put a pellet in there before you get started to keep debris out. Honestly I am not sure this mod did anything.

Any chance you could offer some tips on disassembling the QB22?
I'm a little stuck and unsure how to proceed.

I have the barrel/breech and cocking lever separated from the piston tube/trigger.
Do I punch out the trigger pin to get the piston/spring out?

Hi, I need help too! My is apart now after removing the thin roll pin from the end piece, but I am having trouble with putting the pin for the trigger back in. Does anyone have a detailed instructions on how to put it back together?

That is pretty good work on the SAG. I'm curious as the group sizes you were getting before the crowning and bedding at the 6.6 yard distance.

I did not read completely your post, but if your having problems with your QB78 Deluxe well if your shoting Grizzly Pellets then that is mostly your problem.
order some JSB's from the airgun forum and watch this QB wake up.

Jus so you know, the QB22 has zero connection to a Crosman phantom. The Crosman is a B18 that was a clone of the Gamo 220 iirc.
The QB22 is a remake of the B2 chinese springer that every small town hardware store carried for entry level airgun shooting. I remember those at least back to 1970.
Watch the trigger and piston latch rod. Some can be soft and or too hard. Some rods can let go of the piston. If these still use leather seals keep them wet with silicone oil.
Shoot it and have fun!!

I have the exact gun. Bought it from Princess Auto. I would like to adjust the trigger tension, if that's possible. I looked on the SAG website, but they don't advertise such a gun. I was also hoping to get a manual for it, but no luck there either. Question One: Can the trigger tension be adjusted? If so, what hoops would I have to jump through in order to do this? Seems like all the trigger assembly adjustment videos on You Tube fail to mention this particular air rifle/trigger assembly. Question Two: Is it even worth making the attempt due to the quality of this make and model? Let's face it, it's not the highest grade product on the market. Thanks.
