During the extensive comparisons of P17 and HW40, lubrication came up a lot. I have not lubed the o rings on my airguns much at all and when I do, it is with pellgun oil. So ,how often or when performance falls, should we do this sparingly?

on my HW40, I do as manual suggested - put some drops of pellgunoil on the piston stem. But I do more frequently on the time I change the targets on the back trap and see the excess oil which pushed out on the stem turned dirty and black, I will wipe it clean and put some drops back on it... I think I do this job every 100 to 200 shots?!

For the P17, I have my DOW Corning 33 light grease delivered now and I used that on my P17 now. I think I will do the same just the stuff used are different...

So far I can't tell what's better. But on the P17, the grease looks disappeared from time and not like the oil which will be pushed out and you can see the color changing after shots...

Oh... And I think I will take out the o ring to check and replace only when I notice fps drops or something happened and won't do this on the regular oiling/ maintenance...

The plastic just can't last long and will crack if you disassemble the gun often... Want it last long, don't touch it...
