Question about 40 year old Raven .177 rifle

Post subject:  Question about 40 year old Raven .177 rifle
New to the Forum... I have a question about an old (approx. 40 years old) Raven .177 break action rifle. I think Raven is the brand name as I don't see any "Crossman" on the gun anywhere. Is it worth having this rifle repaired and/or refurbished? All it seems to be missing is the bolt that goes through the stock near the front - sorry, don't know the technical name but would appreciate if someone could chime in with it! I remember it being a decent gun when I was a boy, but quite frankly don't know if the new guns are better in comparison.

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to the forum.
First off if you havent already you should post a little blurb in the "introduce yourself" section. Lots of guys read them to get to know new members...and connect with guys locally or based on specific story details.
Second...I have a 40 year old (my first as a kid) and found it 2 years ago in the basement. Also a little bit of a mystery rifle for a while but concensus here seems to be that it is a Relum variant...anyhow I oiled it up as directed here and am in the process of making a new stock for it...if only for sentimental reasons. I have since got a few new rifles but it was my cherry gun so......I say go for..and get a new one (or 2,3,4,5,6,7>>>)

X2. Pictures please. As already said generally a rebranded slavia however, relum/feg also made a raven made in hungary. Two variants known to exist. One is pal rated and one is not.

I think you are referring to front stock screws. Either way the rifles arent worth more than 60-70 bucks depending on condition of course. Either czech or hungary those economy springers were built well and still work well today, can very accurate and outshoot some of the guns these days. All metal and wood components back then

Thank you for your replies! I'm almost certain it is a Raven model 47 (but it could be 49). I remember the gun as being quite accurate. I'll post a picture of the gun as soon as I can. I have to retrieve it from my parents place. It's time it's enjoyed again - this time by my son and I together. :D

Plinkercases wrote "..anyhow I oiled it up as directed here" - as a newbie to the forum, where would I find instructions on how to do this? I contacted a local gunsmith who said he might be able to supply the missing bolt, (although if someone here might know of another source it would be greatly appreciated) and the finish on it is still very good... So any instruction on what I should do to it before trying to fire it, would be terrific!!!

This is what I was told (and it worked) to rejuvinate the old girls seal:

"If it is indeed a leather seal then a drop or two of oil through the transfer port on top of the piston, couldn,t hurt. That is if you haven't already done that. I had one leather seal gun a few years back that was pretty dry, and it was suggested I put a lot of oil in there then stand upright over night, then drain with the barrel broke open for a few hour,s. It will likely diesel for a while but you will certainly get maximum power."

I cant actually recal if I used pellgun oil or 3in1...

Silicone oil should be used in springers. Not pelligun oil as it is petrol based.

Well the cow is out of the barn now on mine then....I am not shotting it now as the stock is off getting remade so we will see how it works when I get back to it......may need a work over then by someone more qualitied than I.

I finally got my hands on the gun! It turned out to be a Raven Mdl 29 made in Hungary. As you can see, there is a pin missing from the linkage that hangs down from the barrel, and the stock bolt is also missing... so any ideas as to affect repairs would be very appreciated!!

I've also put in a picture of my Norica Model 61-C made in Spain (roughly 35 years old I would guess)- still in good working condition with maybe the exception of using some oil to freshen up the seal. Any info on this gun would also be very much appreciated.

Okay, I lied... I have pictures of the guns, but can't seem to post them. I took a peek in FAQ, but I've never posted a picture anywhere before. Could one of you fine folk give me a crash course on posting an image? It says my file is invalid when I try to add it. Even tried changing jpeg to a gif and it still says the file is invalid :-(

if it is too large a file you will also get invalid I recal.
Try reducing the picture size then repost again.

Thanks for posting the pics Cowan, you have got a couple fine shooters. Their value isn't that much, but their still great springers !

I kind of suspected you have a Relum/FEG, Telly variant on your hands. I just love those commie block springers, and call me crazy but I think I have the same one as you :D

Mine doesn't have a raven stamp and its not grooved for a scope, I refinished the stock, replaced a stock screw, someone had already replaced the breech seal with synthetic however it needed a partial shim. Mine hits in the 530's with crosman pointed ( my only relum that's prefers them over JSB exact express ). It looks like yours is missing what TW Chambers ( https://www.gunspares.co.uk/products/24 ... -200-LP25/ ) refers to as the cocking lever axis screw part B1239

Top to bottom, Relum Telly "Marla" ~440fps
Relum Telly, I refer to mine as Telly Junior ~530fps
Super Telly ~600fps
Slavia 620 made in Cz... ~600 fps

All besides the Slavia were made Relum FEG and many variants exist, There is evidence that these two Manufacturers cooperated with at least one model, however I suspect there may be more.

I don't know much about Norica's but that model is rated at 600fps and BlueBook (10th) puts it at 85 bucks at 100%condition
