Has anyone even heard of such a thing?

What exactly do you mean? Power? Adjustable stock configurations?

Well if you mean like a way to ad more compression to the spring like the guys do in the 2240s, It wont work.......usually the spring is at full compression when cocked.

i recall a springer years ago that appearently was adjustable by way of a dial at the rear of the spring

Hw 45(Beeman P1) has low power and high power depending on how far you take the cocking stroke(2 stops).

I bought this one in 1987, 10000+++ shots through it, virtually no wear and is very accurate and hits hard.(for a pistol)

If you want adjustable power.....cut down the spring and have an adjuster, or make a secondary sear engagement point.

I would think the best way to do something like this would be a levered arm to load/unload the spring after cutting it shorter. Trying to turn in some sort of threaded rod against a loaded spring is not likely to be all that easy (i.e. think long wrench required, as well as something to hold the rifle in so it doesn't rotate with the wrench) and this rotation of the internal parts (i.e. guides, spring) would likely cause excess where and would definitely twist the spring (i.e. not good).

i have never heard of a variable power, spring airgun

but if i was tasked to design one, i would drill a hole at the forward end the compression tube, then thread in an adjustable air escape valve, close it fully to get full power. open it up to reduce power, i could see the value in that, full power for outside, and less for inside when you're shooting at shorter distances

another possible way of doing this, would be to have a longer piston rod with more then one engagement notch, cock the gun at 3/4 to get less power(catches the first notch closest to the back), fully cock the gun for full(catches the last notch closest to the front), this would only work if the longer rod doesn't butt the back end of the tube

i like the first method better, surprising airgun designers haven't come up with that.....or have they :D

Industry reciprocating compressors have that feature, so it could be put into airguns. But it will raise cost, weight, and reduce reliability for those who are so handy.

How is going to be interesting! Do you somehow do this by have a variety of transfer port on a rotating dial, or a variable Orphise (discharge valve) off the side of the cylinder to allow for a certain amount of loose during compression, or hole in the cylinder near the transfer port that are covered by and external sleeve, that can be rotated to cover hole and control the pressure lose. Whatever the design we always need some type of air in the cylinder to cushion the piston from slamming into the head of the cylinder.

This would be fun concept to play with!

Gas springs like in the HW90 are adjustable for pressure. I've heard of BSA's with adjustable transfer port restrictions to power them down for certain markets.
Otherwise I'm not sure what adjustments you might be referring to.

I think a multiple latching position piston would be the best solution, might make the gun bigger though.

Some of the Theoben gas ram rifles were adjustable for power via varying the amount of pressure in the ram. Ram was re-buildable as well...would be a neat project. :)

There was a springer design/model somewhere, that one could cock at 3 different levels.
So for low power one would cock the barrel only so far, for medium power - cock it further & for max power cock the barrel fully.
Just can't remember what make it was ... will try n look it up later.

I've recently found out there was a SPRINGER with adjustable preload(uncocked spring pressure), and appearently the HW50 still is
