Hey guys. its been a while since i've been on last.

Wondering about the SKS simonov, are they legal in Canada if they have a plug or shorter mag for just 5 rounds?

and what kind of ammunition do they use? also where might i find one?

Thanks for the help.

Danny.

P.S. good to be back on the forum.

Marstar has sold out ,but you could call SIR in winnepeg. Its now http://www.cabelas.ca/ They don't show any on their website, but they probably do have some left. They will probably be around $150 for the fixed mag model. You may still be able to find one of the SKS-D models at some gun shows, but expect to pay more. The D model accepts any AK-47 mag. :)

Cool stuff guys, How are they for maintanince? are they a bugger to clean? Or are they just as simple as the AK's boast to be?

I am also wondering the same about the FNC, would they be leagal with a 5 round mag?

Thanks.

Danny.

They are really easy to take apart and clean. Most of the 7.62x39mm ammo available is corrosive which requires a little extra care when cleaning but it's no big deal. I usually pour boiling water through the barrel and gas system and that clears out the salts left behind by corrosive primers. You can field strip an SKS with no tools in less than a minute.

Regarding the FNC - it's prohibited by OIC (Order In Counsel) since January 1, 1995. Same with the FAL which is really too bad. The FAL is a hell of a nice reliable rifle.

Damn, too bad.

But thanks for the Information.

By the way how much does the 7.62X39 ammo cost for a box?

depends where you get it.. anywhere from $8 -$11 /box of 20 is usually what i've seen. Best thing to do is buy it in bulk...

$195.95 for 1,120 rounds. The nice military surplus box has 'em stacked in 10-round steel stripper clips. So in other words it comes with 120 SKS clips lol. Here's the link:

I've never seen them but I'd love to grab some if I knew where to get them. I just use the 10s now and feed half at a time.

All of the 7.62x39 that I've shot came out of milsurp cases of 1120 rounds. Each cardboard boxes within had 1-10 round clip and 2-5 round clips, ready to go.

As for buying an SKS check out Frontier Taxidermy.

They are currently awaiting a shipment of Russian SKSes. I say go for it....I did.

Oh, and cases of ammo can be bought for $190 -$225. Stock up for the wars!

The SKS-D was available with 5rd clips[Marstar LTD] The regular SKS has a lrg pin protruding from the bottom of the hinded mag well making a 10 shot a 5. SKS are usually more accurate than AK's Choate makes a side mt for scoping that acually attaches to the reciever instead of the lame bolt cover mts. readily available with wandering zero.Would make a suitable 150-200 yard bush gun for medium sized game deer/boar/bear.I handload 123gr and 150gr bullets for better accuracy than factory.......................Harold
