Beautiful day today.... I got a chance to do final pellet selection for my .177 Diana 34 today.... Tested 11 different pellets that showed promise indoors, shooting outside at 25 yards.... Once again, the JSB pellets stole the show.... I haven't got a single gun that doesn't like at least one weight of the Exact series....

The final selection was JSB 7.8 gr. Express, which this gun puts over the Chrony at 848 fps with only a 1.4 deviation.... I ran the numbers through ChairGun2 and decided to sight it in for about 41 yards (near zero is 13 yards).... This gives me 1 Mil-Dot low at 11 yards, 1 Mil-Dot high at 25 yards (+0.6") and 1 Mil-Dot low again at 50 yards (-1.1") at maximum power on my Leapers 4-16 x 50 AO Scope.... That should be great for my purposes.... I will be able to use the Mil-Dots to about 90 yards, where the trajectory should be about 7 Mil-Dots low (ie at the lower post).... 8)

Here is the final 5-shot group shot from the bench at 25 yards.... The 10 ring is 5/16" (8mm) diameter:

The group measures 0.37" C-T-C and I was using the first Mil-Dot above the crosshairs as an aiming point.... With these pellets, this gun will deliver 7.7 FPE at 50 yards, and 5.2 FPE at 90 yards.... I look forward to trying it out on gophers soon....

Bob

Nice shooting! You have a ready made Field Target, Hunter class gun there!

Very scientific, I know who to ask for pellet advice now.

Sounds like he can go head to head with a couple of fellows in the Piston Division with his rig...
