Hello everybody. Just a few quick questions about the Crosman Quest 500x. A friend of mine recently acquired one of these rifles for free, but it has a bit of surface rust, and it's missing the rear sight. We slapped a cheap scope on top of it and it seems to shoot fairly accurately, but a bit rough. I was wondering:
- Are there any repair kits I can get for it (spring, piston, seals?)
- Is a nitro piston conversion possible for this gun?
- Are there any aftermarket triggers I can get that will fit this gun?
- Is there any way to treat or maybe get rid of the surface rust on the barrel, or just oil?

Also, does anyone know when Crosman started making the Quest? - we were just curious, this one looks pretty old.

Thanks guys

Cant speak to the nitro piston part but check scopesandammo.com and/or contact AirgunEric for parts (spring/piston, rear sights). Personally I am not sold on nirto pistons, springs last a very long time and not sure if it is comparible to how long that gas stays strong

Rear sights shouldnt be problem to find they are still used on many current production crosman break barrels. There are after market triggers ... do a search ... think they are called GTX or something like that (I am not too picky on the triggers).

Hoppes no. 9 solvent can be bought at Canadian Tire in the gun/sporting section, get some "0000" steel wool, moisten it with solvent, rub it off lightly, wipe clean, let dry and surface oil it (do it in a well ventilated area or better outside ... it is quite stinky and poisonous fumes, i recommend wearing latex or rubber gloves when handling and applying it)... it will take off the surface rust however I have noticed that it will likely bring you down to bare metal on some spots on crosman rifles, not much of a problem with vintage/older/higher quality rifles with deeper blueing/finishes.

Not sure when they stopped making them, you can still find new ones around ... they aren't that old ...

Crosman started selling the Quest in about 2000
Prior to repackaging the BAM B18 as the Quest they were selling the Mendoza 277 as a Crosman 422 a complete flop. Prior to that they thoight they could build their own as the Crosman 795 a complete and utter POS.
The Quest has been a great platform and a lot of fun to shoot
A nitro piston is a great mod as well as a true 2stage trigger blade.

Got my nitro piston from Scopes & Ammo and also a trigger. The trigger makes a big difference and the nitro piston changes the gun completly. I have shot about 2000 pellets with it 22 calliber
