I decided to so some sanding as well. There is no finish yet and the front screw bushing needs to be re-inlet more deeply. The stock needs amild stain then I'll re-finish in Tung oil.

Not sure what I'll do with the hanger, but I might might slim up the bottom boss and run a screw up with Delrin bushing to lock it to the reservoir- loosening ti remove, of course. I could move it back and lock it into the stock behind the schnabble forend tip as well. Any ideas?
With the bipod, it is exactly 9 ounces lighter than before. I'll have to learn to stipple like on my HW98 - love it, attempt checkering myself or have my brother checker the forend and grip.

stippling is pretty easy, it took me about 5min to learn how to do. There are different types of stippling, my favorite is using a rubber mallet and a small pointed screwdriver type tool. You hold the mallet at the throat and the screwdriver like a pencil and hover the tip about a 1/16" above your work. then rapidly and firmly tap the end of the screwdriver with the mallet. I like to draw on my panel first, then once I have stippled it I take a very sharp V chisel and give it a border just to clean up the edges.

The thing I love about stippling is that it only takes a few minutes to makea plain grip or forend very classy and functional,

Thanks for the input - much appreciated.

Walter, the stock feels good, even in my meat hook hands. I slimmed the stock too much to slide the stock band back into the wooden area and re-inlet it - it's too thick. The band needs to remain outboard of the fore end and a slim aluminum band might be nice..

Birder - I'll try the stippling. I recall an article on stippling in a Gun Digest - (red cover, I think) with a stippling 'rod' design, years ago. It had 2 or 3 rows of coarse checkering cut into it's striking surface which was the end of a nail. I think I'll try both. I have the section of stock I cut off the fore end to practice on as it has the same wood density as the rest of the stock.

Seriously...nice work...looks way better than original IMO. Butt portion still reminds me of an Kar 98, but what can ya do.

Seems those meat hooks are capable of some delicacy too.

HA! - Al- you crack me up, along with my bum knee and little, delicate meat hooks- HA!

Got some stain and Tung oil on it, not sure I like the colour - yet. have yet to stipple it - might, might not. it actually feels pretty good.
Haven't shot it yet - ???????? HA! I would like to put some sort of a stabilizer (black steel would be best) just behind the fill hole/gauge. Have to see what my bro has for material in his junk bin for 1/16" wall pipe, etc.



The 'dark' is growing on me - I can feel it.
or maybe it's the Extra Old Stock Malt -

Just put the 4-16X Hawke side focus mil dot scope on it, in exchange for the M3200 5-15X Elite. Might put that one on my 10-22 Ruger.

HA! - what? We've met? Thanks, I think. Something lost in the translation, maybe - or I'm feeling a bit sensitive because of the screw up - HA! I guess - Thanks. Yeah - I know, I screwed up the heal of the stock - could repair it with a bunch more grinding, but what the heck? I think I might be able to get over it.

Maybe it's the beer? - it's really hot here, almost made 30 today - we hates it.

Thanks guys, fairly happy right now - about the gun too. Anyway, like I said, it's hot. BQ'd a very nice rib steak for supper, for my most wonderful and enduring wife - replete with mushrooms and tiny white potatoes - smothered in butter. doused in freshly ground pepper and of course, just a trace of ground sea salt. Yum! It was good. Most everything else (one could have for supper) does suck, in comparison.

The stock's still a bit green - I'll let it sit for a day or 2 more, before I get into heavy handling. It's been sort of fun.

Rick - it was leaning against the bench, and fell over - of course, landing across the anvil I use as a base to punch out the cloth patches for my muzzle loading rifles. It got marked up a bit, tiny abrasions and small dents and I offered it as-is with $400.00 scope to a forum member for, I think, $500.00 or maybe $550.00. He didn't want it, so I decided to refinish it. Now, I value it a bit higher than that. did I mention, it USED to shoot into 1/10" at 25 yards off a bench?

I am happy with it now and if left smooth, will run on the bags just fine.

I am looking at it now on the big 24" monitor at work rather then my dinky little iPhone! I see you shortened it and made a proper schnabel end on it. I see now how you lost 9 ounces of weight. You also got rid of the forearm checkering! It has some really nice grain!!
