My partner in crime 5 year old boy did something pretty clever, all on his own.
He spotted a flyer from Target among the large pile of flyers that's put in the mailbox weekly. He sees the red dot that's the company logo and it daunted on him that these targets would please daddy. Picks up his little scissors and cuts them up. Carefully places them up on my pellet trap. Then eagerly tells me he found me a few new targets.

Having kids is beginning to pay off.

So naturally I had to pick a gun from the cabinet and go to work on those red dots. He was so happy watching me. Although wasn't too happy when asked to have a turn and I turned him down.

PS: it's a bit unnerving shooting guns with two little boys nearby running back and forth in the line of fire. Gotta get them to put their motorcycle helmets on for next time.

Save those Target flyers.

Great Idea, I will keep my eyes open for there flyers.. I hope that it is OK for Young people (and oldies) to be playing in the lead box.. not sure..

Since catching the airgun bug i can't walk through a Dollarstore without looking at everything as a target.

I know what you mean about small boys. My neighbour has two small boys and every time I'm shooting in my backyard it draws them in.
And no, I don't offer them to shoot my airguns. Heck he has his own .22 cal firearm anyways.

Yep, I do the same whenever I go to a dollar store - you may want to grab those highly visible, coloured stickies. I got a pack as I want to use them when my longer, 11m range is setup in the basement. Since I do most of my shooting without a scope, having these brightly coloured stickies (that can be cut up to any size) should make for a nice target at that long a distance.

Lead in the pellet trap isn't much of a concern since I always remove the pellets. The concern is keeping the 3 year old from sticking his finger in the soft putty and digging chunks of it out. He's tall enough to just reach the putty that he seems to mistake for Plato.

Duct seal, actually.
Plato dries up. Duct seal never dries up, remaining always pliable, ideal for catching pellets, BBs and even 6mm plastic BBs.
I was given one by Brian while attending the shoot at his place. Changed my life. Prior to this I'd stack up newspapers and pizza boxes for my pellet trap. Only $2.65 a brick. Got another 4 of them at Home Depot for the new trap I'm building in the basement.

Been meaning to create a DIY for this, seeing how many folks in this forum still uses cardboard for their traps. Just haven't had the time.

Right u r. And I'm the one with small kids...
All I know about this thing is that I hate it. It goes all over the carpet in small pieces, gets stepped on, dries up and is a pain to remove.

I really, really need to dig the pellets out of my trap. It's one of those jobs that is no where near as appealing as say, shooting more pellets into the trap...

I agree, in the beginning if you stay on top of it its ok but as you start to do a lot of shooting and put removing pellets out till the next session and so on it starts to build up pretty quick then it becomes a pain in then you gotta chuck the duct seal out another pain in

The one I designed is a lot simpler, easy to remove the pellets and 100% trappable. And it costs under $5 in materials. Main diff being how much more practical it is to use than a square box (no insult to the traditional design).
I'll get to it some day.

my family is looking at going to the country soon as in moving. Maybe I will have enough acreage to have an outdoor range without a need for traps.

I used to roll it into little balls and let it dry out.Then use them on the golf tees for target practice.
