Hi all again. Well, in my last topic, Relum Telly Piston Seal And Pin Help, I made mention that I was going to attempt to repair my Marksman 1790 next. So, the big day came. I disassembled it rather quickly as it was easy. Then the fun began. After I removed the last screw and put it down, I went and grabbed the receiver to pull it apart thinking nothing of it after my Telly. Well, let me tell you, I thought I was in a war for a brief second, as things flew all over while separating. I then gathered all parts I found. I quickly came inside and looked up the topic here where someone had done one of these a while ago to compare what I had found to what was in the picture. The biggest difference was that the inner piston(?) seal on the end was broken, and not attached. The part of pot metal holding it together was broken, and was sure it is not available, so I went to work. Long story short, I ended up drilling a 3/16" hole through it and reassembled using a flat head rivet. Reassembled and now here I am to say that it shoots! I am not sure of speed, but I am just happy to have it shooting again. It is a nice little gun.

It's hard not to enjoy a story that has a happy ending . . . .But when you mentioned "war", and I envisioned parts coming at you like
snakes from a peanut can, I immediately thought "oh nooo; this is gonna end poorly . .". You got me!

I forgot about those peanut can snakes. Those were tame. My can, aka. receiver, must have been full of cobras and rattlers!

Been following this thread as I have one of these Marksman (minus the rear peep sight). It shoots weakly, my guess would be around 300fps tops. Cocking is very easy, which makes me wonder if the spring is shot? Or seals? Haven't had the chance to take it apart yet but will eventually, it is a good looking gun that should work well for my little guy once he grows some more.

It also has horrible sideways movement at the hinge. Does/did yours have that and if so, how did you rectify it? There isn't a screw that one can just tighten. With it being this loose POI is all over the place, as one can imagine.

Was going to start a thread on it once I find the time to devote to it but since you already started this, figured I jumped in and tried to learn a bit from your experience. Can you post a link to the topic you referred to above?

Mine had a bit of play to it, but I had not honestly thought about it as I am relatively new to all this. I had just done as I saw in the thread. The only thing that I didn't need to do is drill the pivot pin, as mine came out nicely. As for reassembly, I put it in a vice and carefully tightened it up.

Thanks for the link, just what I needed, something with detailed pics and steps. It does look really easy to work on and no spring compressor needed, which is a good thing since I don't have one.

Was going to sell the gun to a member here for virtually nothing but never heard back. Which was for the best as I might as well hack this thing to pieces and see if I can get a bit more speed out of it. While have it apart will see if I can figure out a way to remove the play from the hinge.
