Hello Again,

I am still looking to make my own CO2 Bulk Tank for my 2240. I am looking to get opinions on some new ideas.

The original idea was tig welding sections of 12G CO2 cartridges, this worked fairly well, and I was even able to weld a hydraulic 1/8NPT Nipple to end. They hold 200 psi air pressure, most I have at my shop.

Do you guys think that tig welding these cartridges together will allow them to take the 600-1000 PSI, pressure load from a full CO2 Fill?

I was thinking about doing the same with 16 Gram CO2 Cartridges. The 16 Gram CO2 Cartridges are 7/8" in diameter. So I was thinking about making the tank so that it screws directly into the valve, replacing the valve cap. Shorten the gas tube, and secure the super cartridge with barrel bands.

This is what I'm wondering also.

My other solution is to make the tank from seamless 7/8s steel tubing, or 7/8s aluminum tubing.

However I am unfamiliar with doing the calculations to determine the required wall thickness.

Order a dummy cartridge from the airgun store and use the appropriate connectors for the psi you are using.
Cutting corners and blowing yourself up will ruin your day! :rolleyes:

Trigger I appreciate your advice, but I do not intend to cut corners. :lol:

I am familiar with the dummy cartridge, but I do not want to run a hose to a tank constantly. I am looking for a more portable way to get higher volume CO2 Fill.

I am still only doing the R&D phase, I do not intend to fill any vessel until I am sure it is safe.

What about using 88/90 grams CO2 cartridges? There are tank blocks and adapters available, and IMHO it would be less hassles and much safer to use. I'm currently converting a QB78 to use those carts.

That rig up looks pretty clumsy for my 8" Barrel 2240. I will keep going forward with what I'm at doing I think.

Why not seal the tube at the valve and add a fill plug?
If you know how to TIG,I bet u have a lathe!?!

Or how about just drilling a hole in the maintube and co2 cart. Than tapping the co2 cart it for a fitting? So it comes out the bottom of the maintube.

Easier than trying to weld. And if it blows. It shoots out the bottom.

Yes, I have access to a lathe 8)

Gippeto has given me some resources to calculate the tubing wall thickness I need. I am thinking about making it dual fuel, similiar to the discovery. I was not aware the tube itself could hold a co2 charge?

BTW, thanks for all the advice fellas. Appreciate it, this has become a addiction already :rolleyes: .

Lots of folks have bulk filled the tube. This'll get you there..

Hi! Just recently back on here.

I did the same thing myself, I made a nipple to attach a 1/4npt nipple to the gun and added a 20oz paintball tank to my 2240.

I used an "L" type air quick disconnect and a 6" x 1/4npt nipple. I cut off the threads on one end and off the quick disconnect, then arc welded them together, ground them down and re welded because it looked like there were a couple of pinholes. I ground it down, and welded a ring onto the nipple where the end of the co2 cartridge would be and then I drilled a 9/16 hole in the end cap and used the welded ring to put pressure on the seal.

Then I used some hydraulic fittings to reduce to 1/8npt and hooked up the tank hose.
