So I haven't done much shooting in the last few years. Mostly just playing airsoft, but I sold all my airsoft guns.

Now I'm thinking of buying a pellet pistol for plinking/tinkering with, but I can't decide between a 2240 or a 1377.

I like the 1377 because it's pretty self contained. All you need to bring is the pistol and a tin of pellets. However, the 2240 is more compact, hits with a little more whack, and doesn't need to be pumped 100 times for every 10 shots fired.

What do you guys think?

You'll end up buying both anyway - so just pick one and no doubt you will buy the other one soon enough...

Very hard choice and they are two different animals. I have both. 1377 is big and inconvenient to take into the bush and more of a house gun. Arm gets tired of pumping after a while. 2240 takes CO so that is an added expense. Need to carry a small screw driver incase you have to change CO cylinder. I put fibre optics on front and back sights to help my old eyes.. It fits in my holster and sits on my belt when I go work on my archery 3D coarse. 2240 is a lot louder boom when it shoots. I like the 2240 better but it was an added expense of $60 for fibre optics sights. Pellets are more expensive to buy for the 2240 as it is .22 as the 1377 is .177. Both are a bit of a pain to load pellets and are single shooters. Both are well built pistols. You can not go wrong with either one. Get both as I did. LOL CHEERS!

This was one of the many things I managed to spend far too much time puzzling over. In the end I went 2240 with steel breech and LW barrel in 177. With a Bug Buster scope, pellets go through the same hole at 20 or 30 yards and nearly 60 shots per CO2. I have the 1322 on my CTire sales alert but even for $50 which comes up occasionally, I can't face all that clack-clack pumping.

The problem of course is that the initial cost of the pistol is "nothing" compared to what you can spend on it. 5 to 6 times the cost of the pistol EASILY.

I have one on the shelf...steel breech, Lothar Walther barrel, extended probe, oversize bolt handle, American Black Walnut grips, dovetail to picatinny mount, 3MOA Bushnel red dot, hammer spring, velocity adjuster, and I think I bought nice iron sights for it that are in a drawer somewhere, oh, and shoulder stock laying around somewhere. Oh, and bulk fill adapter too.

Some folks go further than THAT and make or buy blocks to attatch a C02 tank or convert to HPA, it goes on and on lots of fun though and isnt that the point?

My only issue is the shot to shot consistency and shot count per CO2 fill.

I know there is a custom valve/hammer out there somewhere that like doubles the number of shots, has a velocity adjuster and makes it super consistent. I just can't remember what it's called. If someone could link me, that would be great.

Your thinking of a SSG AKA Spring Stop Guide. Basically a captive guide rod for the spring so it can go only so far and making the hammer not bounce back hitting the valve a second time dumping more air.

You can put on a 1377 barrel and 177 bolt on a 2240. With that and a SSG you will have 80-100 shots per C02. I made one 2240 with a 177 barrel, bolt and a SSG and I gave up after 140 shots. It was mainly a indoor pistol and I had it tuned to around 380 FPS.

I remember now. It was the Ustilago DPH (dual power hammer) now I'm just trying to track one down. I haven't been on this forum for years.

This is the best answer, very true.

Another thing to keep in mind is CO2 in cooler weather. If you plan to shoot outside in colder weather, you might want the 1377 or 1322. Speaking of the 1322, why not compare that to the 2240?

I own both, find I shoot the 13xx guns more. I usually just shoot a few rounds, so to put in a fresh CO2, or just pump a few times, the pumpers win. Also you can pump a few times for indoor shooting, or many times for outdoor shooting.

So I went to three different places today, and none of them had a 2240. This is the same town that I called 14 different places looking for a slice of apple pie, and nowhere had any.

I did however find an all black 1377 at Canadian Tire which I may grab tomorrow afternoon. As said above, I'll probably end up buying both, but I don't feel like ordering a 2240 and waiting a week to start shooting.

What options are available to replace the plastic front sight on the 1377?

I went the pumper route to avoid spending the extra cash on CO2 cartridges and having one less item to lug around. I made a carbine out of my 1322. Like I stated before, I don`t mind the pumping as it gives me a good arm workout and I've grown so accustom to it. At home, I use 3 to 4 pumps and at the range, I use 10 pumps as I shoot out to 30 to 40 yards.

Both are good guns. The 2240 gives you an excellent platform to work on upgrades if you are into customizing your personal shooters.
