If you've read my post earlier about my new homestead coming up, I'd like to show you two new toys that will be game tested on the spread.

One is the 45 cal Samyang, which I hope to take a deer with:

and my latest gun which I bought two years ago, a twin-tubed AA in .22, which along with my Talon, will handle grouse and hares:

I'll also be setting up a nice Field Target course on the property! Looking forward to a new lifestyle, although my retirement plans include both conducting the Northern Orchestra as I have for the past 15 years, and teaching 20 or so students. Can't give that up!!

Nice wood on both rifles.
Checkering looks like it had a bit of extra effort on the Yang.
I'd be paranoid taking the bottom rifle afield. Very nice wood! Profile's a little strange, but definitely not un-attractive.

Do you have some of your own numbers yet for the Sam Yang? Interesting!

The strange profile on the AA is due to the double-air chamber tubes under the barrel. I photographed it straight on so they are not apparent.

Yes . . . the Samyang shoots a .45 caliber round ball at a chronographed 600 fps, +or- about 10 fps. A 185 gr cast bullet came in at around 510, +or- about the same.

Both penetrated a 2x4 easily, and would probably go through a deer. I did dispatch a ram I bought from a farmer with the gun . . . head shot. It stood there stunned for about 5 seconds then dropped. Rams have thick heads. It tasted great, too. Have always preferred mutton to lamb.

Seems like a good plan for an interesting and well equipped retirement. Nice guns. RC

Beautiful gun, that AA!
Saskatchewan government modified our game guide this year to specifically exclude high power air rifles from big game hunting. Real shame. Hopefully they'll change their minds in the future, as I'd love to get a big bore and hunt some deer or even some elk =).
