I've never owned a firearm, and only shot a 22 and a 4 10 back in the seventies. I'm not interested in getting a license to shoot, so am looking at something like the Remington 1875 CO2 pistol that I saw at Princess Auto. I've read a bit about it, it seems pellets get stuck in the cartridge. Is that a real problem with this pistol? I am wanting to do some plinking at my cottage on Manitoulin Island, and maybe even kill a squirrel. Can this gun kill one? Looking forward to chatting with so many knowledgeable enthusiasts.

Welcome to the forum!

I am not a professional although I have been into this hobby for some little time, just still keep leaning...

The Remington 1875 looks nice!

But for squirrels, looks a bit under powered... You must have to give a very good shot in a very close distance to get one...

I would not recommend ANY steel BB pistol for killing ANY animals.

You would need at least a .177 pellet traveling at close to 500 fps OR a .22 pellet at close to 450 fps to kill one humanely (at close range)...

Thanks for the welcome guys. I hadn't realized it took me 10 years to post, I guess I am more of a listener than a talker. I have decided against the 1875, it's just too big and heavy. My latest research has me interested in a Gamo P25 blowback. It has about the same speed at 450FPS and the same .177 cal. Any thoughts on this one? Walmart sells them, or I can take a short drive to Michigan and get one at Dicks for $79US.

Is that same for squirrels again?

If so, it's still a No-No.... As a blow back action replica pistol, the accuracy of the gun will be hard to guarantee a good shot on where the pellet should go... So you will just hurt the little animal but not kill it instantly and humanity...

Will you consider a Crosman 1322 or 2240?! I think the price will be super good in the States, whatever you want it online or from local shops...

Thank you for the advice YepYep, That's why i'm here, I never considered the blow back style causing an inaccurate shot, but it makes sense. I googled the Crosman models. I'm not keen on your Crosman recommendations though. I'm sure they are excellent choices, but for me, I'm not a fan of single shot especially pump action.

Multi shot semi auto based on co2 will also reduce the accuracy if you keep on shooting one and one... The gun will be cold down and decrease the muzzle velocity...

I think you would like the new Diana Chaser, you can have multi shot mag for it and it uses co2, not a pumper ~

As 177 caliber would be too small to have enough energy for killing, you should consider a bigger caliber, .22

Yeah the Diana Chaser is more my style. I watched a video, I like that you can buy options for it, like 7 round mag, shoulder stock and long barrel.
I'm ok with it being Chinese, in fact for some things I prefer Chinese manufacture. I understand what you are saying regarding .22cal over.177 for shooting varmits. I now have to decide if plinking 1000 rounds of .22cal. is worth it over the cheaper .177.

Actually you can have more options on 1322/2240, way much more options... But not everyone will go that far...

If you like 177, and are in the US, the 177 Chaser shoots around 600fps I believe with the long barrel, so that should be good enough for squirrel within 15- 20 yards.

No I'm not in the US however if I take a drive downtown and look across the river, I can see the US. Is under 500FPS the max without a PAL? I'm not getting a PAL. I notice Air Gun Source sells the .22cal but not the 177.
