My son has a Daisy 853C Air rifle. It has sat for a few years. When we tried to use it today , it will cock and build pressure, but then it would not fire, or even ease the spring pressure. There are no pellets in it, we did not even load it. I took the stock off as per an internet tutorial on these (Simple 3 screws) and even with that I am unable to ease the spring. I do not want to take it any further apart with the spring under pressure.

Does anybody have any ideas? So we can get this up and shooting again?

Thanks

welcome to the forum if you have a moment please take a minute to make an intro to the members
introduce-yourself-f13.html

if its a Daisy 853C there is no spring its a pneumatic air rifle you can try and dry fire it with no harm you do not need a pellet
sounds to me like its not holding air are you sure its building pressure ?
if its easy to pump then its not holding pressure it should be harder to pump with each pump
listen closely if any air is leaking out the barrel

It sounds like the trigger is stuck. The 853 is a single stroke so only one pump. The hammer spring will be under compression if it was cocked. I don't remember if the 853 has a safety, maybe check that first.

yes your correct Duke its a single stroke same as the 953 what I meant by second or third pump
was if your first initial pump was to easy you can try a second or third just to make sure
its actually building pressure sometimes the seal will start to hold after a first pump unless
the seals are completely gone
and it could be a trigger issue but first you need to confirm its actually holding air

I was holding air. It was something in the safety switch that wasn't "turning off" . I eventually got it to fire off the pressure, but it would repeat the isue. I took it further apart assuming it will need a good cleaning and oiling. It was fairly clean but found a broken plastic "lever latch". I am not sure how that affected the safety but assume that was the issue.

Does anyone know a source to buy parts for this? It is not listed on the Daisy website. I would actually like to buy a few spare parts

Thanks everyone

Shawn

I don't know where to buy parts, but Pilkguns website is my go to for sealing and trigger mods:

Can you post a picture pf the broken part?

You should be able to get parts from Daisy. I called last week looking for valves they are out of stock but may have the latch. If you want to send me a pm I can give you a direct number for the lady I talked to. They are pretty quick on the phone but take a week or more to answer an email. D&L had some parts listed. The part numbers are the same for the 753 853, 853C, 953, and 953 cadets, except some 853s were single shot similar to the 753.
The 953 Daisy Powerline which the cadets are going to replace the 853 with doesn't have the lothar Walther barrel. But it shoots decent.
I was working on a few 853s last week.

Part number for the lever latch is 853-29. It doesn't have any effect on the safety on the gun.
What part of the lever latch do you think is broken.
