Hi, I have a SAA bb version and my friend has a pellet version. Today, I took the chronograph to test the muzzle velocity of the pellet version.

It is really wired that the FPS is just 280-300 using the 7.4 and 8.8gr pellet. Is there anything wrong with this pellet SAA? Or it is just the trait of this product?

Replicas usually just do 300ish fps...

You can always use the lightest pellets for a faster speed... The 7g Hobby or the alloy pellets are all good...

It seems about right. The SSA in BB is rated at 410 fps and for pellet 380 fps. BB weights are not as variable as pellet weights since they are generally made of steel with thin coating and around 5 gr. Pellets can weigh anything between 5-10 gr or higher in .177, but if you take the lower end you will get closer to 380 fps. Try Gamo PBA raptor pellets at 5.4 gr you will get close to 380 fps. The FPE produced is around 2 for this low power replica. Try the calculator, it isn't exact by any means but you can play with pellet weight, speed, and energy and see the effect each pair has on the other parameter.

My Umarex Desert Eagle could shoot 0.37g, 5.7gr, alloy pellet to close to 500FPS. So I suppose the NBB revolvers should shoot higher. Using my own cartridge, the bb version could shoot around 400-420 that is much higher than pellet version.
The FPE in my DE is 4.55J. FPE in my bb SAA is 3.02J. FPE in my Crosman SNR357 is 4.99J. Maybe the modern replicas have much lower FPS? Anyway, SAA is still a nice replica. Just get confused with the high variance between bb and pellet version

I tried the same 5.7gr alloy pellet in both. The bb version gets 408fps while the pellet version only get 320fps? As I replied above, I do have Umarex DE that shoots pellet at 498fps. Maybe that’s why the DE gets discontinued?

Another data that u might interested in: my sig p320 could shoot the 5.7gr alloy pellet to 410fps range. But it has blow back. The nbb SAA using the same pellet but shoot just 330fps is really confusing to me lol

I had been looking for a DE in these years and had no luck then finally bought an airsoft one with long barrel that shoots 6mm BB at 400fps...

And my HW40 shoots 410 then my Tau-7 close to 500fps. And I think my CP88 Competition shoots 400ish?! Don't remember exactly...

You have a nice hot DE for sure~

The Umarex DE has super high gas consumption. 12g CO2 could only run 3-4 clips (8rd). I modified the refillable CO2 cartridge to make it work in airguns. Maybe I will post more short videos about it later.
This DE is very accurate. I got it from an elder gentleman who is too aged to use the open sights on it. It is my most precious collection.

I am still really confused with the pellet version SAA. The Crosman 357/vigilante also have rifled barrel. But it could shoot 5.7gr to 430-450fps. That’s powerful enough to get rid of the mice in the chicken house. And it is easy to load with light trigger pull as well (also cheap!).
The SAA pellet is even weaker than 357? Maybe the design issues lol
But still consistent enough to be a target gun. Not for mice apparently…

The comparison is bananas to pomegranates:

While both are C0-2 powered, the systems and barrel lengths are quite different.
We'd be lucky if the total bbl length of the 7 1/2" SAA comes out to actually 5", with some sources claiming slightly less than 5".
The SAA blows more gas as total waste with it's goofy cartridge pellet loading system.

The Vigilante is a cheap, plasticized piece of junk compared to the SAA when it comes to build quality.
It's plastic wedge latching system is an incredibly weak point that should have been addressed and improved by Crosman long ago.
