Thanks Tom!
Here are a couple more with the after picture of the targets from the 50:50 shootout.

That event was looking close until Dennis stepped up to the line and nailed 4 out of 5! Way to go Dennis!
Honorable mention to Tony with a second place score of 3 out of 5.

Great day everyone. Scores and match report to follow.

HAHA match report June 10, 2023
By Rob Wright, Match Director
Thank You to the HAHA club for accommodating our need to relocate the June 10 match from Port Colborne to Hamilton.

Thank You to everyone who participated, those who helped with setup and teardown, and participated in the 50-50 shoot after.

Thanks to our Course Marshals for this match: Marc Shelleau and Bob Wall.

We had 17 shooters in this match ranging in age from 8 years old to … much older than 8.

We used the usual HAHA setup with 6 lanes of 4 targets and 2 lanes with 3 targets on the specialty lanes.
The course setup tested both ends of the 10-55 yard limits and there were a several ½ inch hit zones. We also mixed in a few of the more challenging targets from Port Colborne including the mouse target with the 3/8 inch hit zone. There is not much room for error since that hit zone is only about 9.5 mm from edge to edge and most people were trying to fit a 4.5 mm pellet through without catching the edge (those shooting 5.5mm had even less room for error). By the end of the day there was not much paint left around any of the small hit zones.

The day turned out to be great and the usual HAHA swirling winds were unusually calm with just a few gusts to remind us where we were.

There were some big swings in a few people’s scores since the last match – amazing what having a dope chart that is on or off can do for (or to) you! A couple scores below were adjusted to correct a math problem.

The first notable score was Ian who has shot with us a few times, but this was the first time that he completed a full 60 shot match – way to go Ian. Great shooting – especially for an 8 year old!

The top scores in the Hunter division spread out a bit more this match with the top shooters stretching more than a couple points above the nearest competitor, but interesting to see the closer than usual scores between PCP and Piston.

Open PCP saw some excellent shooting in general with a tie at the top with Rob G and Richard S only missing 2 shots each. Well done!

Jeff and Bob swapped spots this match in their ongoing WFTF Piston shootout.

Complete results are in the table below.

We did another 50-50 shootout after the match completed (we got a bit smarter and took the course down before everyone else left this time!)
The challenge today was 5 shots at 3 challenging targets. You had to attempt all 3 targets at least once and your remaining 2 shots were on the target of your choice.
The targets were:
½ inch at 25 yards
¾ inch at 37 yards
1 inch at 45 yards
The Troyer factor for all of these targets were approximately equal at a rating of 50.

There were 9 shooters who took up the challenge. Everyone knocked down at least 1 target and 7 of the 9 made 1 or 2 out of 5. It was looking like we had perhaps made it a bit too challenging until Dennis missed his first shot, then knocked down 4 straight. Tony came close with 3 hits, but Dennis prevailed. I posted the pictures of the targets used after the challenge and you can see that most people used their 2 extra shots on the first or second targets with not many people taking on the 45 yard 1 incher. After winning, Dennis shared that his strategy was to go for the one with the biggest hit zone – clearly it paid off.

Marc also set up a 100 yard rat challenge that had a few people trying to figure out their drop quite a bit farther than usual.

The next match in Hamilton is on June 24. The rest of the Ontario FT season schedule is below.

Tom and Rob, thanks for the great pics and write up. Looks like another great day of shooting.

Might want to switch the young fellow to shooting right handed since he sights with his right eye. At that age, kids can learn anything quickly.
