I took my hammer 50 cal to the range for the first time think that I would get a morning in. The gun uses so much air that I got 5 minutes of shooting in about a hour and half. I had planned on a 50 shot day, to get a good feel for the gun and bring CAF a good assessment. That was not happening today.

My first 5 shots gave me a close to vertical line of 2-3/8"long at 50 m using Umarex 350 Gr ribbed slugs, over a 2 tank fill. There was a cross wind of 24 km/h.

I have not felt recoil from a gun in some time, it was more of push than a kick. After the first 5 shots I started holding the gun tighter to my shoulder which seemed to degrade the accuracy so I went back to a light hold. I had the gun on a bipod on a wood bench. I then began adjusting the scope to zero, by the end of the 11 shots my 5 l tank was down to 3000 psi. The tank was filled in a hot garage and I did not complete a top off, after the tank had cooled. The tank was down 500 psi from my initial fill to the 7° C range temp. I started using the shoe box compressor to fill the gun but it is 18 minutes to fill. I took another 8 eight shots using 280 gr pro slugs. The 280 gr slugs gave less kick and the sound was noticeably a higher pitch, less bark. They did not group as well as the ribbed slugs but I may have had it tight in shoulder, hard to say because at that point frustration had set in. The centre of the 280 gr was grouped around the zero of the 350 gr

The 2 round mag is kind of finicky to install, If you over pull the bolt past the middle stop, the bottom spring plate is then hard to push down, making it tough to insert. It's very important to stop the bolt at the half point to install the mag. The bolt has a pull of only a few pounds unlike any other air gun I have. The mag must be kept level as it is handled, as the slugs can easily slip out. After the first shot the mag will automatically advance to the next round as you cycle the bolt. The Mag is pushed outward by means of 2 compressed springs. Two times the mag shot out of the breach as the second position latch did not engage when being cocked.

I was not able to shoot enough to develop much of an a opinion other than it is very powerful. The 5 l tank will be more than enough air for a day out hunting but that's it.

I will need to take a generator and a YH to have a better day of shooting.

Mounted on the gun is a Covenant 7, 3-21x50 in 34 mm tube Side focus. This is my second Covenant scope, very clear for the price. I purchased this scope over a year ago on a whim at a 50% off sale, but will mount a digital for hunting.

I am going to set up a camera from the side, to review my different holds.

That's all I got for you all today
Robert.

Came very close to buying a .50 Hammer.
I watched a video of a fellow shooting an Eland in Africa with one, using a 350 or 360gr. HP
seems to me, it was. The slug ended up on the off side under the hide. The Eland went maybe,
40 yards tops. I thought that performance was VERY good.
