Made some changes tonight on the Dragonfly. I drilled the transfer port and valve to .170” and I also opened up the air intake hole to the pump to .070”. I also added 0.030” of shim to the hammer spring. The valve seems to be dumping all the air in the valve, and I can no longer hear the pump gulping air when opening the pump. I can pump at my pace now without worry.

Velocities did not change since the last numbers I posted.

Never in my life did I think I would say it. But I’m now a fan of a pumper airgun, of coarse its the Dragonfly MK2. With 10 super easy pumps to hit 850fps ( depending on pellet weight) and a 2.8lb trigger this gun is so much fun. This model is truly a gem for those capable of modding.

I haven’t had the conditions to find its favourite pellet yet. But the 10.34 heavies (JSB)seem to hit my dime sized spinner at 25yds just standing with my trigger stick tripod for support using 8 pumps. Get one while you can, you won’t regret it.

I did all the time in the basement, with same stroke 5-8 pellets in the exact same whole at 8 yards with stand 2 hand hold and no support.
Now I didn't play it much as it getting too easy...

Just an FYI to anyone doing mods to this rifle. The pressure valve is half plastic, half aluminum. So if you desire a ten pump gun, be cautious over pumping as all valves have a pressure limit and will crack. And since one half is plastic, the valve will grow slightly from the pressure so always keep some gap between valve and piston to allow for growth. Parts aren’t easy to find here in Canada.

Made my final piston adjustment tonight. I set the piston to piston rod gap to .310”.

I was also seeing if I could remove the pump without loosening my custom barrel band, and Im so glad I didnt have to. Which means I’ll maintain my zero when pump maintenance comes around.

So I found some RWS hobby pellets (7.0gr) so I figured these would be the lightest I can get in lead. 10pumps = 875fps

I’d have to say I’ve Maximized the pumps efficiency at this point. And I’m more the happy to have ‘sticker velocity’ at 9 pumps.

A definite keeper!

I don't quite have the rifle you do- I have the first variant which seems to like the Crosman 10.1 gr F/T domes out of the cardboard box.

I was getting close to 4" at 78 yards with them in quite heavy cross winds.

I still haven't examined the dragonfly-2 version yet. It may be something worth working towards at a later date.

Just have to ask though:

What happened to your factory pump arm pivot pin? The system on the first variant is fairly robust, and doesn't seem to need to be replaced with the crosmanish e-clip system.

Hey DocSharptail, I’m not totally sure which pin your referring to. As the MK2 has a total of three pins, two can be seen externally ( one up front with ‘E’ clip) and ( one in the rear, where the stock is trimmed to close up against them) the third is an internal pin that connects the piston rod to the pump mechanism. I’ve had all three out many times and non seem to be getting damaged. Eventually I want to replace the front one as the ‘E’ clip just doesn’t engage the pin to my standard.

I hadn't realized the system was changed for the second variant~ and I'm referring to the pin that anchors the pump arm to the pump tube at the front of the rifle.

The MK2 has a so called improved pumping system. I never operate the original version myself. But the MK2 is an effortless system which maybe the reason I’m not seeing much wear on any of the pins.

So after more shooting and thinking, I’ve started to wonder why this rifle is so much easier on the compression stroke then it was out of the box. I think after shortening the valve spring the check valve opens a bit easier. More testing to do still but winter seems to be back for a bit.

Well I started my testing of the pellets I have in stock. These test are strictly velocity until weather improves. All averages are taken using 3 shot groups, starting at 3 pumps so if anything goes wrong I won’t have any stuck pellets.

Those 870's are inside 20fps of what my HW97 does.

Finally had sometime along with some descent weather to shoot today. The Dragonfly impresses me more and more everytime I use it.

So Im using my go to pellets JSB 8.44 and JSB 10.34 heavy, JSB 10.34 hades. And for the first time I tried Norma 9.1 GT FT. I’m shooting 30yds with a good breeze.

The worst were the Hades, any where between 7-10 pumps.

Next was the Heavies, then the 8.44. Shocking to me the Norma 9.1 come out on top. At 9 pumps I was hitting my dime sized spinners 9 out 10 shots.

During this basic test I shot all the JSB in a row to minimize bore changes. And I shot 12rds of Norma to tune the bore, then shot 12 more. Besides the work out from pumping and a heavier trigger then all my plinkers, I had a blast playing with the Dragonfly. This rifle will put food in the freezer and or a smile on one’s face.

FYI the Dragonfly MK2 has about 3/8-1/2” longer Length of pull then The stormrider and CR600w.
