Where can I get a lighter valve spring for my Crosman 1377?

Take your spring with you to Princess Auto, some CT's, to use as a guage. Look up Spring Manufacturers in your local yellow pages, usually they will have a sample/overun room or bins. I've found suitable cantidates at PA in the surplus isles.

I think I've tried most of the spring combinations, light valve + heavy hammer, shimmed at Hammer, adjustable at Hammer. I will say one thing for certain; unless you have done pump modifications (read- flat top) the stock springs were adaquate to at least 30 pumps. Your results may vary, but I've gone back to using factory springs in mine (2289,1377) both at the Valve and the Hammer. With the flat top piston, there is little need to exceed 12-15 pumps.

Modest lightening of the hammer spring, in conjunction with some polishing of trigger components can make the trigger exceptionally smooth, light and crisp. This does work against ultimate power once you exceed 10 pump strokes.

Don't forget to pre-cock after you install that featherlight valve spring, the hammer may be holding the valve open. Additionally, if you go with too light a spring in the valve, you may find that the check valve won't seal properly unless you put your first couple of pumps in quite fast. Ideally you should try to find a spring that is lighter, but robust enough to hold the check valve shut.

Yes, vAgRaNt's right about spring selection at Princess Auto. I worked at the Whitby,ON store from '02-'04, as a hydraulics tech and we usually had tons on hand in surplus. BTW, vAgRaNt, I see you're in "Winterpeg". Was that the Panet Road store? That's where they sent me fro my training.

That's their Head Office and Main Branch in the 'Peg, PA's version of Mecca. But the complete other side of the city for me.

Fortunately, they have occupied a location nearer to my side; and it's nearly the same size.

If you want the really good old junk, you still have to go to Panet, but the close one has all the good current and recent new junk.

I was there yesterday, and pleased to find they're carrying a larger assortment of aluminium stock, bar and pipe. I feel the urge to build a shroud.

I used to 'Summer' in Whitby, my Grandparent's lived there.

Yeah, you're right. With the distribution center right there, Panet always gets first dibs on the fun stuff. Luckily, there's always something new coming out.
Hey, a shroud! Never really thought of that. I should try to fabricate one for my 2289. By the way, a good friend of mine who used to work at PA in Whitby too came here from Winnipeg. We still catch up once in a while and get in the odd fishing trip.
