I disagree with using the fast 25's for moose/elk/bear....but thats just me. If one WERE to choose a 25 cal, there are better choices than the 25/06. Look at the .257 roberts or the 25WSSM....but for me, deer would be the largest target. I still maintain that the 7mm-08 is the best choice all around, followed closely by the good old 30/06.

Just my .02

OK, I read 3 pages of responses and have little to add in the way of centerfire choices, but echo whats been said about .22lr. Like choosing a car, operating expense is as big an issue as is getting the one that suits your needs. I like target shooting/"plinking" with my rimfires, and an afternoon of blasting with even good-quality target rounds represents a pretty modest expense. The ammunition available in the .22lr caliber is astounding too, from CBs all the way up to high-velocity HP hunters...amazing. I use an Anschutz bolt-action field rifle and it is incredibly accurate. My other shooter is a Winchester 9422 that digests .22 s/l/lr. interchangeably. Thats cool.

I read an interesting article recently about the .22 hornet round, and I know that Anschutz makes rifles chambered in it. Just Googled .22 Hornet and found this article (among MANY others( http://www.shootingtimes.com/ammunition ... et_082306/

If I were to make the step up in calibers, I'd be looking at this first.
