I was just wondering if there were any competitions arranged for 2008 in the Toronto area. It would be good if I could tie in a shoot with one of my visits (I hope to be over once or twice this year).

It would be fun if I could bring over one of my guns too.

For next year, the Port Colborne schedule is as follows:

1) May 10th, 2008 - 60 shot match

2) June14th, 2008 - 60 shot match

3) July 12th & 13th, 2008 - 120 shot match
Canadian National Championships

4) September 13th, 2008 - 60 shot match

5) October 4th, 2008 - 60 shot match

The Elmira schedule is not fixed yet, but may include matches in April, August, and November, along with two matches in the months that have matches scheduled for Port Colborne. It will be posted as soon as we have some information to pass on.

Are all of these matches "self contained", or do results (points) carry over into the next match to eventually culminate in a yearly championship?
In other words, could you pick and choose the matches you attend, or do you essentially register for the year and are out of luck if you miss a match?
Thanks!

Thanks for the dates, will have to see if I can sort something out.

Are these comps open to anyone or just club members?

Officially, there are no carrying over of points as our numbers are very
small. It has been just been tried this past year for points to be
accumulated over the year and an award handed out for the matches
held at that club. This is the first time it has been done, as previous, there
was only one club and the Nationals were the actual year end, not
Christmas (in a round about fashion).

The matches are open to anyone that wants to join in. There isn't any
method of registering for the entire year, as the numbers don't justify it.
Hope this helps.

The September 13th match at Port Colborne has been canceled, as it conflicts with the US Nationals in Kentucky. I know a fair number of Canadian shooters are planning to attend the US Nationals, including Dennis and I, the match directors for the Port matches. We are working on something for the 6th of September, which could take the form of an informal 60 shot match or an official sixty shot match with awards if there is enough interest.

I have not sent this notice out yet and I am in the process of confirming that there are no conflicts with any of the other dates. Will be sending out the official schedule soon and will post a copy here.

Tim

Notice the 9th was changed to the 6th for a reschedule possibility.

Here, Hunter is going to be tried as a full Division, where there are enough requests for it when competitors sign up for the match. The maximum distance is still 55 yards and minimum is still 10 yards. We are treating the scoring a lot differrent than anywhere else with 2 points for a knockdown, 1 point for any hit on the target, and zero for a miss. Nowhere else are they using this format for their country, clubs, yes, that has been tried, but for a country, no. The only country to use shorter distances is England where they have a 45 yard maximum distance for HFT.

We also upped the magnification to 15 power as it would let in a lot more scopes with most of them having better optics than some of the usual fodder in the 4-12 range. It is also a bit easier to aim with a 15 power scope at 55 yards and is near equal to a 12 power being used at 45 yards. This keeps things simple for the match director in that he doesn't need to worry about two distinct courses of fire, or dropping the difficulty down on a match to make up for the tougher equipment rules of Hunter. See you out there.
