The Leaper 8X32X56 has been suggested as a good entry level scope with good repeatability. It's within my limited budget so looks like my next purchase in preparation to this upcoming FT season.....

Now one question, I have also heard that Quality Control is not all there between batches, is this the case or maybe just an isolated incident?
Any feed back would be appreciated..... TIA

To further clarify the scope you should be looking at, it is the 30mm tube
and not the 1" tube that has very similar specs. There are now 4 of these
scopes in use, with pirellip having one, Mac having another, and
Suprmatic owning 2. They seem to be repeatable for use in clicking from
distance to distance, the optical clarity is excellent (no, it is not a
Leupold or Bushnell Elite 4200) , you have the lighted reticule, and the
price is not going to put you in the poor house. Remember, we are not
talking the best scope out there, we are talking about the best value for
the money that has surfaced so far.

The Centre Point Optics seem to be the same scope, point to point, that is
in the Leaper's line, but there has been some talk about minor differences
that could make it a better buy yet. However, no one has had the
opportunity to compare the identical Leaper's and Centre Point's together,
and until the day that happens, I would not stick my neck out and say to
get the Centre Point, only. I am only pointing out what has beem
forwarded on other forums by those with access to both. I have yet to see
a retailer of Centre Point scopes in Canada, but that is bound to come as
Crosman is backing that line to compete against the Leaper's. I should be
interesting.

While the Leaper's has been used on medium powered spring rifles, I
would not put it on something like a Patriot without an iron clad written
guarantee that is is magnum spring rifle rated. I have already seen one
scope come appart right in front of me that was supposed to be ANY
spring rifle rated and own another that cannot hold setting on a medium
recoilling rifle. I have a Hawke Preditor 4-16 that could not hold its
setting while mounted on my Diana 45 (original version) and would not
hold on my HW 35 E, so it finally got put on my Barakuda, where the
recoil cycle is near the lightest of all my PAL rated rifles.

It is not always about reticules breaking or lenses shaking out (been there
too), but details like the turrets being able to hold where you set them,
focus rings not coming loose, and the ability to reliably repeat click
settings from day to day. Here is a simple test to see if your scope is able
to hold settings. Once you have your scope set at your favourite distance,
if it starts to climb and go to the right, it is an indication that the turret
plungers are not stiff enough to hold the settings you have put them at.
This is really apparent on 1/8 MOA click scopes, but is not limited to them.
Hope this helps.

LeBarons Markham store had one just before Xmas. I gave it a quick once over but will wait until someone else gives the thumbs up before I leap...

Well, thanks for doing the research. Where is the best place to get a Leaper 8X32X56 with the 30mm tube? And what price are they roughly????

I was checking around and found http://www.marstar.ca/ac-optics/l-30mm-scopes.shtm to be the most competitively priced.... $249 plus the usual taxes and shipping....Also seen it as high as $400+.....

Yes, should have clarified it was indeed the 30mm tube version as per your other posting I was referring to....

I have a Centerpoint 3x9x40AO that I bought at LeBarons in Miss. last summer . It's mounted on my 1760 . Works great .
I also have a Centerpoint 4x32 compact which I don't like as much . Crosshairs are too thick and field of view seems very narrow .

Since they are down the road from me, I should take a trip over and see
what they have. From an FT shooter's point of view, the Power Class line
looks like the ones to go with. The sad part of the 3-12 is that if you want
parallax correction, you loose the lighted reticule. You don't have that
problem with the others in that line, as your choice is lighted or not
lighted. A 6-24 would have really rounded out that line. The jump from
16 to 32 may not suit some shooters who would like something in
between. Case in point, I have a 6-24 on my 410.

Not sure if Marstar includes the side wheel, but it's sold as an option at D&L...

Has anyone here ordered their scope from either of these locations and if so did the scope come with or without the side wheel?...TIA

I am sure that pirellip ordered the scope from Marstar and it came with
the large wheel. The other sidewheel scopes do not have the wheels as
part of their kit. I know that there are two sizes and the one to get is the
100mm diameter. However, another pirellip trick was to use the bottom of
a CD spindle to greatly enlargen the wheel diameter, which almost makes
it 6" in diameter. He bolted it to the large wheel that came with the scope.

According to the Leapers website, the sidewheels are extra cost options on all their SW scopes.

I bought from D&L, and as you note, they are extra. Unfortunately, D&L only carries the 80mm wheel, so thats what I got.

I couldn't find the 100mm sidewheels on the Marstar site, so I don't know if they still have any or not.

I have got one of the Nikko Stirling 8-32x60, it has the side wheel and IR, great scope for the money and there are quite a few using them here... some are also using the 10-50x60... now, thats a beast

For some reason, Nikko Sterling scopes have not been a high demand item in gun shops here. Their lines have some great features and the cost is very reasonable for the amount of magnification you are getting. However, the 10-50 has still got some serious bugs in it and I have been close witness to how it can strike at the worst possible moment, a Major match. That scope has been plagued over the years and it was not uncommon to hear of a shooter going through 3 to get one good one. The new line looks remarkably like the Leaper's and Center Point scopes and I am sure they share the same optical plant. I will not even consider selling my Hi Mag and it will only be replaced if the LED goes out, as recoil is not going to knock this scope apart, being on top of a Steyr. I hope you have good success with the new 8-32 and it is one more scope that should be added to a growing list of very usable scopes for FT.

I hadn't heard of any problems with the big Nikko's (must be the flight into Canada ;) ). There are quite a few being used over here, I will try to find out what the most popular scopes are and post the results.
