One of my favourite things is to get something new. Last year, I got my
9th target from Dick Otten at the World Championships and it has yet to
see a pellet. After I finished getting it painted in time for the show this
weekend, I might not want to ever put it out, lol. When I bought the
target, Dick and I talked about the paint as he said it was the most
difficult for him to prepare for customers. I agree, it is a really hard target
to paint as the colours are everywhere on the real cat. Even the
dinosaur that I got at the 2006 US Nationals is not as hard as this one to
get done. The large silver object in the picture, is the rivet that Dick uses
to fasten the paddle plate to the mechanism. Normally, you are looking
right at it so it is normally in the centre of the hole. Post a picture of your
target and let's see them before they get pelted by wild shots, like my
crab target, lol.

The Bobcat is from AfterHours Target Company, in Florida, the Dinosaur is from Pounded Paddle Targets in New Hampshire, and Buzzy Buzzard, Lab Rat, and Squirrel Nutkin were made locally but the fellow is no longer making them. Parker101's squirrel is from Gamo.

I guess I won't post the pic of my Otten raccoon again, probably boring by now. Like you said, best to take a pic before they get shot at...

I'll ask again JIC someone knows: any convenient source for those large aluminum rivets, besides presumably Otten? Certain (Gamo) pellet types wreck them, I think they have a lot of harder metal in them.

If your pellets are damaging that rivet, don't use the pellets again. They most likely are not a lead tipped pellet and will damage more than the rivet over time. Contact Dick directly, as I have never seen pop rivets that large.

wow if all the ft targets are that bright i dont think im going to need a scope with a lit reticle after all, that will simplify things a bit!! ill get a side wheel scope instead of the lit reticle lol

GOTCHA. Right now, those targets look nice and bright, and certainly look
like you woule never need a lighted reticule. Just wait until about 5 or 6 shots have hit the paddle. All that bright colour is gone, and usually by the second shot. Those are fresh taped paddles (tape lasts just a bit longer than paint) and the camera flash makes them stand out, but now we use transparent tape across the back of the faceplate and on average, the tape stays throughout most of the day. On a large KZ like the one in Buzzy (Photoshop retouched paddle colour), that tape can stay there, intact, all day. On a target like the Lab Rat, it might be there most of the day. On a target that has a 3/8" KZ, the tape is gone in about 15 shots. Yes, if you get targets like that, or ones that are places in low light areas, the lighted reticule is a huge benifit. If it is a matter of another 20 to 50 bucks, GET IT.
