This is an informal review of the Fitco 2-7 power, 32mm AO scope I have been using on my 2289, and it's replacement, the Leapers "Master Sniper" 4 power, 32mm AO scope....

I found that for Grouse hunting, the best setting for the Fitco was 4 power, and focused at 20 yards.... The image was then crisp from 10 yards to over 25 yards, which covered all the ranges I needed for Grouse hunting.... If you used a higher magnification, then refocusing was required (impractical while hunting), so I figured the adjustability wasn't really necessary, and purchased the Leapers....

Both scopes have adjustable objectives, and focus down to 7.5 yards.... both have a 1" tube.... The Leapers comes with Weaver mounts, which won't fit many airguns....

The Fitco has a duplex reticle, while the Leapers has a Mil-Dot with 6 dots.... at close ranges, it's really a matter of personal preference.... at long range, the Mil-Dots are better for estimating range....

With both scopes set at 4 power, the Leapers has a slightly greater field of view.... in fact you have to set the Fitco to 3.5 power for it to equal the Leapers.... At 2 power, the field of view of the Fitco is significantly more than the Leapers (45' @ 100yds vs 34', advertised)....

With both scopes set at 4 power, the Leapers is a LOT brighter than the Fitco.... like no comparison.... Even if you set the Fitco to it's lowest setting (2 power) it is noticeably dimmer than the Leapers.... If you hold the two scopes at arms length, the exit pupil of the Leapers is as advertised, and what it should be - 8mm.... the Fitco is a LOT smaller.... Part of this may be due to the variable power element, but if you are hunting in low light conditions, the Leapers is FAR superior.... 8)

I found that the adjustment turrets on my Fitco had significantly more "slop" than my Leapers.... if you go one direction and then reverse, more clicks were required before POI change occurred....

The price on the Fitco is currently $51.00, and it comes with see-thru yellow caps, and their (crappy) rings are $9.50, but you can usually get the Fitco stuff at 50% off on their website.... however, their warranty is not clear if you opt for the discount.... If you pay full price, they have a 3 year warranty, with a $15.00 service fee.... but their website says "Special sales are not covered under warranty program."....

I bought my Leapers from D&L, and the price is $58.50 and it comes with a pair of Weaver rings, flip-up lens caps, and a 2" sunshade.... If you need rings for a 3/8" dovetail, the Accushot rings are $11.75, and are very beefy.... There is a lifetime warranty from Leapers in the USA, but there may be significant hoops to jump through there as well....

If you compare prices with warranty coverage, they are within a few bucks (which is cheaper depends on if you can use the Weaver rings that come with the Leapers).... and shipping charges shouldn't be much different either.... You can buy the Fitco cheaper if you don't care about the warranty.... To be fair, I've had the Fitco over a year, and for half that time it was on a Slavia 620 springer with no ill effects....

For the extra few dollars, I'd pick the Leapers.... and for sure I'd never buy another set of Fitco rings.... I find that the adjustability of the Fitco is simply not required for Grouse hunting.... and the superior brightness of the Leapers will definitely pay off in poor light.... Either way, you will find that for Grouse hunting, a 4X scope, focused for 20 yards, is JUST the ticket....
