Shorter 630 spring vs wf600

Image

The only tricky bit in changing the 630 spring is the propensity of the tiny coil spring for the trigger to take a leap across the room in a random direction.

Also, pay close attention to the end cap/safety when taking the gun apart.......if you dont, you will have issues with assembly and function afterwards.

I put it back together with some molly and the original spring. It was shooting so mildly that I thought something was wrong and the power was gone. Chronograph says it is still putting out the same as before which was a surprise given how smooth and quiet it is now, not that ever was noisy or harsh in anyway before. Really could use a new piston seal but they are hard to come by, D&L says they have some on order so I'll wait for them to get them in.

My 630 is apparently an older one and uses these piston seals...

These are the original type:

This is an aftermarket one:

Found a tuning kit that claims it will crank my Slavia 630 model 77 up to 984fps... I feel like this could be damaging to the rifle and I don't really want to crank it up that high anyway but it does intrigue me somewhat.

Might be helpful but last time I bought replacement springs, seals and piston for my 630 (was a few years ago now) I used this site https://www.cz-spare.parts
That is who was making the Slavia air rifles (CZ) which is why (I think) they are so accurate. JMO

I tried cz and they have cleared out almost all the Slavia parts.

I got around to fitting the Titan XS no. 11 spring today. There was a lot of preload to get it back together, I had to use a spring compressor which I have not had to use with the stock or other springs that I've tried. The rifle cocks very smoothly with a fair bit more effort than stock. The shot is noticeably stronger feeling but for some reason that I can't understand the velocity has dropped from around 480fps with the stock spring (which had almost no preload) to around 440fps now (close to two inches of preload).

I would suspect the piston and breach seals. An original full-power 630 will easily get into the 600s with a factory spring and mild cocking effort. The wimpy Cdn detuned spring had almost no resistance during the first half of the cocking stroke and often gave around 440-460fps with 7.9gr pellets.

The .177cal WF-600 is in the same velocity range as the CZ630/631. On the WF I recently learned that a worn piston seal or one with a collapsing face (trampoline effect) can cost you 80-100 fps.

The piston seal is suspect though I did not remove the piston from the gun with this last spring swap. I do have a seal on order, they are difficult to find and I hope it shows up. I ended up having to order it from Poland.

Both the Slavia 630 model 77 (.177) and my WF600 (.22) are shooting approximately 445fps with Titan XS #11 springs. There must be something wrong with the seal in the 630.

The WF will give you a bit more velocity if you fill the void in the top of the piston seal post with epoxy. This void allows the seal face to flex inwards and reduce compression. This simple modification gave me 75 fps with my .177cal WF. Check my review for a pic.

Maybe check the piston seal diameter on the CZ630. It might be a common 1" size. If the OEM seal is that difficult to find then maybe you could change to a Crosman seal if it takes a 1". You would need an adapter post if the seal is the right OD. I'm assuming the 630 post is screwed in like the WF.

Shot the 630 a bit and it seems like it might be settling in to some extent. The velocity has improved a bit.

Crosman Premier Hollowpoints 7.9gr .177
459.7
465.9
467.5
461.6
463.1
472.3
442.2
464.1
456.7
466.1
AVG = 461.9 fps

This actually looks good to me except the cocking effort and the recoil/feel of the shot seems like it should be closer to 600fps.

I'll wait for the polish seal and try that, if it doesn't show up I'll look into adapting it to take another seal.

As for the WF600, it is shooting so smoothly now with the Titan XS #11 spring and Rick's aluminum top and spring guide that I'm reluctant to mess with it. I really only want to use it for a plinker at home anyway so having it below 500fps is good. Same goes for the Slavia other than the shot seems a bit unnecessarily harsh for the performance at this point, it cocks really smoothly though and the trigger is fantastic. I have some other higher powered guns for field and range work.

When I swapped out the spring in my 630 I had good results. I also did the washer mod at the same time. Ill have to find the post with my results. And if I remember, it improved after break in.

Couldn't find the results, but I did find this link for modding the 630/631
