A while back there was a thread in which killercrow and someone else were having an argument about whether or not a heavier hammer spring would keep the valve open longer, and I'm wonderong who was right? I mean like if I put a heavier hammer spring in my 1389, will it dump more pumps?

Hey, don't hate. It releases negative energy, which is bad for everyone.

Yes.

I have the stock 1377 hammer spring and a 2240 hammer spring. In my 1377, the 2240 hammer srping will only dump 25 pumps before retaining air, the stock spring will dump 50 or more with my light valve spring.

the spring has very little to do with the air flow if it opens it as fast as it is going to . for most low pressure pumpers (2289) a heavier spring may just be harder on the valve bolts .
the stopper size and the internal spring and hammer travel have more to do with it then the spring . i'd start with them and leave the spring till everthing else is perfect you probably won't need a bigger spring .
for co2 and hpa the valve stem length is a big factor for long barrels
