Okay, My scores are not dazzling. I'm shooting in the low '40s on average, with my left hand. It is getting better, and I have the occasional foray into the 60's. I warned you. I'm not hot.

But I have a problem. From a rest, I can put almost all of my pellets within the 8 ring. When I shoot freehand, almost all of them drift to the right, quite noticeably. If I could move the group over about an inch, I'd be mostly in the 60's.

Is this a grip problem? Any suggestions? If it's a grip or hold thing, I really don't want to adjust the sights because the gun is bang on (My HW40) from a rest.

and if you have to,
after analyse your shoot ,
costum your grips too,,

try diferent way to hold your gun ,,

when i shoot off hands,
i have to hold the hand ,who hold the grips,
with the other hand ,by under,
to be sur to not rotate to the right or to the left,

Try to adjust your trigger finger, sounds like lour finger is not far enough over the trigger. Hth

Are you left or right handed by nature?

Two words.
Trigger-Pull.

More words.

Adaptability is the key to human survival. Aim exactly that amount to the left & see how she shoots off-hand. Otherwise, relax & control your breathing.

Anything you can do to ease or compensate for the trigger pull will help improve your score.

Put a laser sight (or tape a laser pointer to your gun and watch what happens as you pull the trigger. You don't even need to dry fire.

Work on this until you get it smooth and movement free.

Right, and right eyed. But I lost my right eye last year due to a stroke, so I'm now left and left-eyed. No problem. I'm a professional violinist, and my digital dexterity is there. I just need the practice. Left or right handed doesn't matter much to me.

Forum concensus says trigger finger. Okay, I'll practice that and repost on the same subject after a couple of days, and work on hand position, too

I appear to be twisting my hand as I pull the trigger. An adjustment of the trigger finger has helped. The trigger is being pulled back at an angle - not straight back.

I am also not concentrating enough on the sight, and too much on the target, and as a result I twist.

I have a long, long way to go.

Here is my take

First, for most of my air guns, especially the target guns I put the pad of the first segment of my trigger finger on the trigger.
If you have a heavy trigger, you might put the trigger into grove of the 1st joint of your finger, for a better grip and more leverage on the trigger.

Now for the diagnostic:
You might be bending/pivoting your trigger finger on the 3rd joint and pushing the trigger and or the grip (and thus the pistol) to the right.
Practice bending your trigger finger on the 2nd joint. This makes is easier to pull STRAIGHT BACK. I sat in front of the TV for hours and practiced bending my finger at the 2nd joint w/o moving the 3rd joint. It took a LONG time to retrain my finger muscles.

For the grip, put pressure on the middle segment of your middle and ring fingers, and pull back into the base of your thumb. This is a front/back grip. Do NOT squeeze the grip with your thumb or palm, that will put a left/right directional pressure on the grip.

Keep your wrist locked, the only thing that should move is the 2nd joint of your trigger finger.

BTW, there is nothing wrong with adjusting your sights for how you hold the pistol. The pistol may behave/vibrate differently when shot off-hand than when supported on a rest, so the sights should be adjusted for how you normally shoot the pistol.

I have a bilingual position in the government and I got a copy of the Sorbonne recommended standard the Collins-Robert French English Dictionary....but they admonished me so strongly not to let any harm come to it that I decided to leave it in the plastic wrap.....

Well, my shooting is gradually going left - the shots are much more centered now, when I concentrate.

Unfortunately, my best score today after 7 x 10 is 51.

You know, there is great truth to the old saying that the guy who gets his deer is a lousy shot on paper. I can say with confidence (I have over 50 deer, the same amount of bear, the occasional moose, elk and antelope, and truckloads of rabbits and other assorted vermin to my credit in 50+ years of hunting) that I'm a seasoned and competent field shot. But . . . . I'd trade my last 6 point buck for a 90! And maybe even an 8 pointer! And my scores are worse sitting down. The fact has to be faced that I have no talent for this. But I will not stop!!!!!! No way Jose!!! Not ever!!!!!

And don't feel sorry for me. I've already taken two deer and three bear left-handed so that is not an issue. My scores right handed and left eyed are not any better, I'm sorry to say.
