No matter what our kids and the new generation think about us,
WE ARE AWESOME !!!

OUR Lives are LIVING PROOF !!!

To Those of Us Born

1925 - 1970 :

~~~~~~~~~
TO ALL THE KIDS WHO SURVIVED THE
1930s, '40s, '50s, '60s and '70s!!
First, we survived being born to mothers who may have smoked and/or drank
while they were pregnant.
They took aspirin, ate blue cheese dressing, tuna from a can, and didn't get tested for diabetes.
Then, after that trauma, we were
put to sleep on our tummies
in baby cribs covered
with bright colored lead-based paints.
We had no childproof lids on medicine bottles, locks on doors or cabinets,
and, when we rode our bikes,
we had baseball caps,
not helmets, on our heads.
As infants and children, we would ride in cars with no car seats, no booster seats, no seat belts, no air bags, bald tires and sometimes no brakes..
Riding in the back of a pick- up truck on a warm day was always a special treat.
We drank water from the garden hose and not from a bottle.
We shared one soft drink with four friends, from one bottle, and no one actually died from this.
We ate cupcakes, white bread, real butter, and bacon. We drank Kool-Aid made with real white sugar. And we weren't overweight.
WHY?
Because we were always outside playing...that's why!
We would leave home in the morning and play all day, as long as we were back when the streetlights came on.
No one was able to reach us all day.
--And, we were OKAY.
We would spend hours building
our go-carts out of scraps
and then ride them down the hill,
only to find out we forgot the brakes.. After running into the bushes a few times, we learned to solve the problem..
We did not have Play Stations, Nintendos and X-boxes. There were
no video games, no 150 channels on cable,
no video movies or DVDs,
no surround-sound or CDs,
no cell phones,
no personal computers,
no Internet and no chat rooms.
WE HAD FRIENDS
and we went outside and found them!
We fell out of trees, got cut,
broke bones and teeth,
and there were no lawsuits
from those accidents.
We would get spankings with wooden spoons, switches, ping-pong paddles, or just a bare hand, and no one would call child services to report abuse.
We ate worms, and mud pies
made from dirt, and
the worms did not live in us forever.
We were given BB guns for our 10th birthdays, made up games with sticks and tennis balls, and
-although we were told it would happen- we did not put out very many eyes.
We rode bikes or walked to a friend's house and knocked on the door or rang the bell, or just walked in and talked to them.
Little League had tryouts
and not everyone made the team.
Those who didn't had to learn
to deal with disappointment.
Imagine that!!
The idea of a parent bailing us out if we broke the law was unheard of. They actually sided with the law!
These generations have produced some of the best risk-takers,
problem solvers, and inventors ever.
The past 50 to 85 years have seen an explosion of innovation and new ideas...
We had freedom, failure, success and responsibility, and we learned how to deal with it all.
If YOU are one of those born
between 1925-1970, CONGRATULATIONS!
You might want to share this with others who have had the luck to grow up as kids before the lawyers and the government regulated so much of our lives for our own good.
Kind of makes you want to run through the house with scissors, doesn't it ? :wink:
so true...im a FIRM beleiver we are SANITIZING ourselves to death...
ie. my parents come from the old contry(italy)
when they git cuts know what they did?...they put ASH OR MUD on it...or get this...my dad being a shepheard at the ripe ol age of 10 woul LET A DOG LICK THE WOUND!!!!
and they are a million times healthier than what i am....so we are doing worse not better in my opinion by being extreme clean freaks....notice the extreme i put there because basic cleanliness is a must
As a teen living in a small village, my friends and I often hung out in another small village 10 miles away where we sometimes did some wild and crazy things, clean fun type of things, nothing to hurt anyone or their property. They only had two village cops and a quick drive by their homes you knew if they were on patrol or taking it easy at home.
We never got caught doing anything, but I later found out the one cop would come to my village and visit the local drinking establishment (since he couldn't do that in the village he patrolled) and he got to know my dad who did the same on some weekend nights.
Ended up the cop knew alot of what we were up to and shared this with dad. I couldn't figure out for years how dad knew so much of what me and my buddies were doing, until he told me one day. He said the cops would sometimes go on foot patrols during the night and check things out a distance and we never knew this as kids.
I'm just glad that we never did anything really stupid, since dad would have found out, and I would have regretted the talk/punishment from dad worse than anything from a cop.
My guess is that parents are too busy (both have jobs) or lazy to pay attention to kids or want to give them what they didn't get as kids, therefore parents give them money and let them do what they want, which eventually leads to disrespect/spoiled kids etc..
All it takes is a few to do this then the peer pressure (school) takes over and all kids expect to have things their way.
I've been trying for years to turn things around with my kids, but am told I'm old fashion and to get with the times. Unfortunately wifey often sides with the kids, so I have no leg to stand on.
Fortunately though my kids seem to be turning out better than most, but we probably have arguments more than most families.
It is kind of funny, I was born in 87 and can relate to many of those points, maybe not the lead paint and such but i was always getting into some sort of trouble climbing trees (and getting stuck) to learning the hard way that a skunk can in fact hit me accuratly as far away as i could accuratly hit it with a homemade sling shot. I think that is why we have so many dumb people my generation and younger. A good deal of them were never allowed to learn, and I am not talking about book smart or even the more dangerous street smart but the good ol back woods creek side smart.
Actually I recall the TV remote control being a "Jerold" wired control unit that came with a 25ft cable and a push button box offering channel 1 to 50... The was the greatest invention next to having a 25" color Tv console unit...
BTW, I turned 44 yesterday!
Take care,
NIGHTHAWK
A Remote??? :shock: We actually had to get our butts up off the couch, go to the TV, and manually change the channel. While there' a slight adjustment of the Rabbit ears was usually part of the ritual. Anything to make Shemp, Curly, and Moe Look clearer. Mind you. that was when Mom and Dad weren't home. As they thought it was too violent for us kids to be watching. :lol:
