Is there a "right" way to do this? As in a formula to follow?
I've always just zero'd my air rifles at 25 yards which seems to work out fine when shooting 10-55 yards.
However this time I'm zeroing a scope on a non-PAL rifle that will only be used from 10-35 yards.
How do YOU choose which distance to set your zero?

I usually let Chairgun tell me the best zero distance based on muzzle velocity, target size and pellet weight.

yup- i run the numbers through chair gun and decide the size of the "kill zone" and look at the length of the point blank range.

what an awesome program!!!!!! i'd buy the guy a beer who wrote that program if i ever met him/her. :drinkers:

I sighted both of my 500fps rifles for 17 yards and that gave me a zero from about 16-22 yards all withing about O.04 of an inch. Close enough for me. Then I used the Ateab (A-Team) ballistics program to give me all the other clicks. Chairgun would probably yield the same results.

I do set the zero so that the high point of the trajectory is about 0.04" above the zero which stretches the zero a little on the high and low end.

If you don't have the computer programs, then here is a ballpark to work with. I have just reviewed my Chairgun ballistics numbers for around a dozen or so guns. In summary:
- if you are shooting sub 500fps with average height mounting system, your zero will be in the 15-16 yard range.
- if you are shooting above 750fps, and you have an average height mounting system, your zero will be in the 25 yard range.
- if you are shooting above 750fps and using a high mounting system (elevated scope rail plus mount), your zero will be near 30 yards.

Hi Guys. I'm very new to FT. For all my competition rifles I set the distance I want and shoot it in.
It seems FT is a lot different. I have an AAS200 it shoots at 798 FPS I cronnied it. I have a Hawke 16x scope, with a sideweel. Now I put all the info into chaigun, and I don't have a faintest clue how to use the numbers on the table on that sheet, I know scopes very well, but when they say Clicks 30 or MOA -7 what does this exactly mean.
Please give some advise

Minute Of Angle is your another value relevant to your clicks, many scopes are 1/4MOA @ 100yds, so for every one click of the elevation knob you will raise(or lower) your POA 1/4MOA or 1/4" @ 100yds...4 clicks being 1 MOA or 1.00" @ 100yds

So MOA -7 would be 28 clicks on a 1/4MOA scope, or 56 on a 1/8MOA scope (7/.25=28)
