I have seen statements about shooters setting their guns up at just under 500 fps with heavy pellets such as 10.6 gr. CPHs in .177.... or medium weight pellets such as 15.9 gr. JSB Exacts in .22 cal.... What is the rule regarding this?.... Can you set up a .22 cal to shoot 495 fps with 21 gr. Kodiak Match pellets for example?.... Just curious....

Hi Bob

What I did is tell the competitors exactly what pellets would be used for testing. In our case I used 10.5 gr premiers for .177 and the 15.9 gr JSB in .22. That way people can tune their guns with those pellets and what they shoot in the match is up to them. I brought a tin of Premiers and a tin of the JSBs and everyone's guns were tested with those pellets. It worked out real well. We had 26 competitors and only a couple had to tone the guns down or shoot an alternate gun. Some shared with other shooters as well, but it was all great fun.

Just wondering if this will be the standard for the future now that it has gone through a match ?

It will be the standard for matches at Port, but if another club hosts a sub500 match, they could set their own standard or use this one.

Range Burlington has always been good to go with full power (<20fpe) FT rifle matches ..
Pistol FT rules as it relates to power is where the <500 rule would be observed at Range Burlington ..

CAFTA-Pistol FT Guidelines
A)Pistols shall not have barrels more than 14.5” (fourteen and one half inches) long and must be able to be fired from a single hand position.

B) The maximum calibre for pistol shall be .22 and the maximum power level must not be greater than 8 fpe (10.8 joules).

C) All pistols must be less than 500 fps (152 ms), regardless of calibre.

D) The competitor’s pistol will be checked over a chronograph with the competitor’s ammunition.
