Hi.
I just finished a very interesting book on Airguns called THE AIRGUN FROM TRIGGER TO TARGET. It was published in 1995 by a father and son team named G.V. Cardew and G.M. Cardew.
The book covers the main types of guns, springer and pneumatic (pre-charged and pump) as well as topics like pellet drag, trajectory, rifling, barrel length, muzzle crown and more. One of the most interesting topics for me was the sequence of events in the firing of a spring rifle, and the controversial idea of oil combustion in the gun providing substantial portion of the motive force of the pellet. They claim, and seem to prove that dieseling, the controlled self-ignition of fuel, is good and happens almost every shot. Of course detonation, the evil twin of dieseling is uncontrolled and can be catastrophic.
Through various, often ingenious, experiments, the authors explore a variety of theories on airguns and shooting in general. Some of them are proved right some are surprisingly proved wrong. I don’t know how much of their work has been superseded by more modern research, but this is a very good way to understand what is happening when one shoots an airgun.
I bought my copy on Amazon.ca for about $26.00. I mention this because earlier printings are out there and are priced in the $75.00 range. You can make up your own mind which you want.

I had to wait about a month after I ordered my copy. I think they bring them in from the UK and don't actually stock them in North America. Order it and it will Come. :)

I think the saying "you shouldn't judge a book by its cover" might come in handy.

The art work, typeface, colour choices and layout are awful. Aside from that, it's not that bad.
