I wanted to ask the experts their opinion on the type of material they would use for the hammer spring (i.e stainless steel, music wire, etc.)

I ordered a few spring from CENTURY SPRING for a CUSTOM QB unregulated pcp that i have that the hammer spring got crooked has i was experiencing a problem. The gun was working well at 2700 psi but the maker of the rifle suggested that maybe another spring could work at 3000 psi and i tought it was Worth a try.

I orderd a few strenght of sprin. I realised that any spring Under 11 pounds/inch was doing a good job.

But now for my question:

What force/strenght of compression spring would you guys used on your guns.

Trakkar has a far better selection of springs than Century. What exactly are you wanting to attain from the gun. As for material constructed from read the amount of deflection that is recieved from a choice of materials.

Trying to attain from the gun simply the best balance for shot strings with the valve and hammer spring.
The one installed was doing good with a 32 shots from 2800 to 1300 psi.
Wanted to make it work at 3000 psi to try to use a few more shots.

I can see that music wire seems to be good with deflection and weight support.
Now stainless is also good but less deflection. Wath i realised is that music wire is lot less expensive.
So when mahufacturer uses music wire for the mass production rifles is only for cost effective reasons or is it also for quality and life of the spring.
Wish one will last longer at his original strenght. is there other issues i dont know?
What do we need to look for strenght regarding the power needed to open a stem at a certain pressure.
Is the pound/inches, max deflections, max weight suggested?

I thought that could be a good topic/tread to start.
I didn t find much informations for newbie about specufication on springs and strenght needed for pcp's.

Custom unregulated QB.

I've been using the stock spring against a delrin valve stem in mine, in .22 @ 3K PSI, and all seems to work well.
No where near your 32 shot string count, but nicely balanced for 17 shots or so. Kinda leery of squibbing one in the bore though,
so I usually refill around the 15th shot. I think Eric may still have some delrin stems if you haven't gone this route yet.
Incidentally, from the discussions I've had here and elsewhere, my stock spring seems to be a bit of an anomaly...
